Reoccuring shingles/chicken pox what can we do????

My mother in law is 51 years old and has a acoustic neuroma brain tumour. For many years she has suffered reoccuring shingles & chicken pox alternating. One time she has chicken pox then the nest time its shingles. She was sent for a brain scan 7 years ago and that was when they discovered the tumour which up to now has been monitored by scans and has not grown. My question is that is there any long term cure or solution for her chicken pox/shingles??? Some years she gets them 4 times and it is dehabilitating even with antiviral meds. Any advice massively appreciated.

jim had shingles most of his adult life, he used to swear by coconut oil. and i dotn think there is a cure. but dont stop looking. we forget what we already know..hopefully someone out there hasnt forgotten...

weve been around a long time..much longer than pharmaceutical houses.. check out very old medical books, american indians, or the chinese...

I had shingles and was told by my doctor that once you have it, it can reoccure as many times as it wants to. I was also told that you can try vaccines every so often to build up immunity to chicken pox and shingles. Poor thing. She will be in my prayers. Report It

that's strange. i thought you could only contract chicken pox once in a lifetime... my prayers are with her.

Has she reported the problem to her doctors? There are medications to help just as the outbreak starts and creams, both called Zoborax (prescription), but they help the average person. I also understand there is now an innocation.

Her immunity system is compromised and it is best to call her doctor.

I have heard that smoking pot helps the shingles...... all though its illegal, it can be prescribed by a doctor. It is a natural herb anyway.

I didn't know you could get chicken pox more than once. They now have a vaccince for children for chicken pox. Can your mother get the vaccine?

It's a fact that once you contract chicken pox, you forever have the herpes zoster virus in your body. She's getting shingles---not chicken pox repeatedly. It's not possible. Shingles looks exactly like chicken pox and a person with shingles can only be contagious to someone who has not had chicken pox (in which case they would get chicken pox-not shingles.) Shingles comes from within the body, while chicken pox comes from an outside source. You can get shingles in different places on your body every time you have an out break. But you won't get it all over your body, like you do with chicken pox.

Here's a site for further info from the National Institutes of Health: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/shing...

I thought you could only get chicken pox once. there is a vaccine for chicken pox.

go to the dr
don't get advice on here
i've never heard of recurring chicken pox. you sure it isn't always shingles. needs a medicine for the herpes virus.

Vitamin C 1 with bioflavinoids 1 gram 4x daily
Lipoic acid 100 mg 2-3x daily
Lysine 500 mg 3-4x daily on an empty stomach
Multiple vitamin-mineral to build up immunity
Capsaicin cream to painful areas
Vitamin E 400 iu 3x daily during active periods and 400 iu daily other times
Olive leaf extract or lomatium 500 1-4x daily during flare ups
Methylcobalamin as directed

The medication is called Zovirax, just to clarify that point. And it is an out break of shingles, not chicken pox. As stated before me, shingles can occur at any place on the body but will not spread through the body. there are some things that will trigger an out break (high stress) so i would check and see if there is anything going on that could attribute to her outbreaks. If her current physician is not actively ahead of this, i would ask them for a referal to someone who is versed in auto-immune diseases.
GOOD LUCK, and i hope things improve.
