I'm 47, never had acne and now am having breakouts on my chin and around my mouth. What could be causing this?

This has been going on for several months and no over-the-counter medicine has gotten rid of it yet.

If you鈥檙e looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne鈥?prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action.

Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it鈥檚 advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past!

Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Hormones hormones hormones!!!!

hormone changes maybe....thyroid... maybe. hard to say. few drugstore things work for acne, but dermalogica anti bac skin wash is the best soap i have found in 10 years of ups and downs with skin problems. i dont put any topical things on over the counter... they're full of a lot of drying stuff that can make the problem worse.

What the first noter said: hormones. Even if you didn't get them when you were younger, your hormones can change and you can get them all of a sudden.

I'm 45 and never had serious acne. BUT, I now notice that when I have too much Caffeine I break out in zits

It could be acne mechannica, acne brought on by irritation to the skin. I'm not sure why it would be on your face, but that's my guess. Otherwise it might just be caused by stress, overtanning, or something else. You must be either be experiencing a hormonal change(depression, stress) or your skin could be producing more oil than usual (over tanning dries out your skin and your skin will produce more oil). You might want to check with a dermatologist. Good luck!

Changes in your hormones and changes in your body chemistry. Your body chemistry changes about every 10 years, that's why you can become allergic to things you have never been allergic to before and have break outs.

It could be a new lotion or makeup your using. t could also be a change in your skin.

If you have acne now you are not taking care of your body.
Could be too much sweet stuff as acne is bassicaly caused by poor blood, to much sugar.
It is also caused by certain drugs, mainly ones you donot need.

if you never get it when your young your most likely to get it when your older. it's caused by hormone changes

There are many cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made face packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems. More remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html

Hormones. Your estrogen levels are dropping and no longer counteracting the effect of the testosterone in your body.

Your body has been sensitised to testosterone in the early foetal stage of development. If your ring fingers are longer than your index fingers it will have been heavily sensitised.

It responds to the testosterone stiimulation particularly on the upper lip and chin -- which is why those areas are usually the first to develop hair after the axilla, pubis and calves.

Your skin will be oilier in the areas where you've acne at the moment. That will settle down -- in the meantime just keep it as clean as possible to reduce the oiliness.

If it's beginning to show signs of developing hair in those areas, the best way of removing it is with a men's type electric razor. The Norelco men's models are about the least irritant. Don't even think of other methods of hair removal while you're suffering from acne in that area.
