Will this treatment for my acne be effective?

I had my first visit with dermatologist today. I'm on:
- 150 mg of Adoxa (1 pill a day) - Retin-A, applied at night, washed off in the morning. -Rosula, used 30 minutes before I put on the Retin-A (I wash it off). - I also have a moisturizer I use after I wash off the Retin-A in the morning, I forget the name.

I was previously on Tetracycline and BenzaClin (like a year ago) but that didn't work out. But the Dermatologist sure sounds like she knows what she's talking about...

Trust me, I have a balanced diet, I drink plenty of water, and I have cystic acne. No luck... =[
They even suggested Chemical peals, but I'm honestly a little apprehensive about those. The dermatologist did point out, however, that they are perfectly safe (since she is aware of the medication I am now taking, the dosing, etc.)

I was on the pill for a while and I noticed a difference. The Retin-A is going to dry out the skin pretty bad so make sure you don't forget the moisturizer.

Overall it sounds like an effective treatment. Will it get rid of it completely? Probably not, but it's going to reduce the breakouts and the places of the breakouts significantly.

There are probably few options after this and there lots of side-effects with those, so hopefully it'll work out so you don't have to consider them! :) Best wishes.

geesh, those are some pretty powerful drugs. Have you tried just drinking more water, eating better, getting some sun, and using tea tree oil? It's healthier and less toxic. If your acne is hormonal, it will clear up in a few years as well.

yeah, it sounds like you are on the right track.

Moisturizer? What kind of moisturizer? Is it just a lotion that you have, separate from what the doctor gave you?
Don't put any lotion on your face. Retin-A as well as all the other topical medications are HARSH but your skin will adapt a little. the lotion may be the thing that is making you break out.

That should definitely work. The only drawback is that it might be a bit tingly/painful, but it should be fine.

retin a is a very effective treatment, but be careful with it.

retin a will make your sebaceus glands get smaller and produce less oil

OF COURSE that dermatologist is going to sound like she knows what she's talking about. She is promoting pharmaceutical products so that the hospital she works for makes money. Most pharmaceutical products do not work. As a matter of fact, there are many over the counter products that would be able to help you much more effectively.

With that said, don't listen to anyone else who says not to put lotion on. Your skin, whether it's oily or not, NEEDS moisture. You just have to make sure that the lotion you use is the right lotion. DO NOT use lotions with excessive parabens, isopropyl palmitate, mineral oil, lanolin alcohol/oil, or alcohol (especially isopropyl alcohol and denatured alcohol).

First, you need to get an effective cleanser. Depending on your skin type, you're going to have to use products that will balance your skin. I recommend using a simple soap bar for sensitive skin. Basis and Purpose have wonderful soaps. They do not irritate skin, nor do they dry your skin out. Make your own judgement. You know your skin better than I do.

Next, get a benzoyl peroxide product. Oxy has a wonderful formula. It might be 10%, but you will regulate the drying effects of it by the next step. Put a generous amount of this stuff on at night, and a small amount to troubled areas during the day.

I also want you to get a lotion. This one shouldn't have SPF, but should be made for acne. Something with salicylic acid in it to exfoliate your skin and remove build up. Put this on after the benzoyl peroxide.

Finally, WEAR A SUNSCREEN. Make sure it's at least SPF 15. I recommend that you get Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45. It's awesome. Or you could apt for something more moisturizing, such as sunscreens from Dove, which I also highly recommend. Just make sure that you do NOT glob it on. Put enough for your skin so that you feel it's moisturized. That's all. If it rubs off during the day, pat your face and get the oil off of it. Then reapply some benzoyl peroxide and then put more sunscreen on.

Retin-A will make your skin VERY red. It works, but it's not worth it. Also, the other products you have... Do you really need that? I doubt it... Unless your acne is very severe... Antibiotics for acne lose their effectiveness after a while. They also have side effects... It's not worth it to take them, either...

I hope I helped you. Good luck!

It's surprising how many people don't know about skin nowadays... Jeez... Oh and I'm not directing this statement to you, but to other people.

I dare say that should work for you. It might take some time to get rid of your acne, but be patient. Like so many things in the medical world, it's really a lot of trial and error.

I wish you luck, and just know, you will grow out of this, is something all most everyone has to go through, I did, and I have great skin now,,,,,it does go away......it will all be good...鈾?/div>

ahh no! Dont even try! Just follow a very simple, and natural diet.. There is also a soap "Camay" and it works AWESOME! just put it on when you leave home and when you come back (2 times). Also, Stop eating junk food and oily foods for a while.. that contributes alot to the screwing of your face (lack of better term). Also, use light shampoo/conditioner. I've heard that it goes into your pours.. anyways, i've done it both ways and the natural way really helps..! You'll end up spending a kazzzzzzillione dollars on this worthless ****, and it will probably not have any affect on ya.. so try it atleast once.. Tell me how it went!!
