Acne and Acne Scarring?

Okay, my acne isn't "severe", it's pretty "normal" but after a pimple goes away, even if I don't touch it, I get a scar! And these scars usually last a couple years!

And if I DO touch it, I get an even worse scar. Either way, I lose!

I have acne on my face, back and arms. I also have scars in these areas as well. People automatically assume I have bad acne because of my scars, but I really don't. It's normal.

I've noticed, though, almost nothing works to get rid of my acne. It will work for a little while, then all the sudden I will get acne again.

I have seen a doctor about my acne and he just said, "It's normal, you'll grow out of it." I also asked him about my scars and he said, "They'll go away in a few years."

He did prescribe something, though. But it burned my skin and I was shedding like a lizard! So I had lizard skin AND acne! Great.

So my question is, what product do you use that works for your acne and/or acne scars?

Thank you so much!

My best friend had the same problem and she used that Pro Active stuff. It did wonders for her skin. She used it every day until her acne cleared up, now she uses it every other day and has beautiful skin. Hope this helps.

something that works well for acne is just washing ur face with soap and a washcloth every time u take a shower. simple, but effective

you can try orange blossom facial wash or satin facial srub (mint). They are all natural essential oil facial cleansers.

If you'd like more info on theses products email me at

Sorry to hear about your problem.
There is an excellent skin care board forum you may want to check out called www.essentialdayspa.com/forum
There are some very wise people.
Now to get you oriented towards skin care, the most critical thing is PH or product and understanding skin ph.
Your skin is slightly acidic, and needs to be cleansed with things between the ph of 4-5.5, ideally.
Additionally, you need to use products that are not harsh.
Lastly you need to start exfoliating, and using various chemical exfoliants to lift the old skin and bring in the new.
For skin remodeling - go to SkinBiology's website, and read about various techniques using copper peptides.
You can order various sample sizes of differing strengths of chemical exfoliants (BHA (like salicyilic acid) and AHA (like lactic acid), copper peptides, and emu oil.
Additionally, using a product like emu oil on your skin will reduce inflammation, act as a barrier, moisturize, and allow your skin to heal. It will also assist preventing the burn you mentioned with the prescription product.
There are many ways to go here, so I recommend checking out the skin care board.

To share my personal regieme - firstly I use high does of nutritional supplements. Chances are you, and most of the US is deficient in essential fatty acids. That means, your skin's rate of repair is hampered by this deficiency. Additionally, I'd bet my ring on your having a zinc deficiency also. Investigate a good bovine based zinc supplement as well. I use a Zinc blend from Standard Process and sometimes another one from Nutriwest.
B-vitamins, and other things are cruicial.
Part of acne is horomonal. So your doctor could be right if you are primarily experiencing hormonal acne, normally occuring on the lower jaw and cheek.
If you have cystic acne, or deeply embedded nodules, you'll need to have a really gentle cleanser (check out I Feel Pretty Products.com), and get started on a 2% BHA exfoliant that she uses.
Part of life is trial and error. However, exfoliation is the one thing that can lighten and brighten your skin.

One last recommendation, is to avoid using harsh products that strip the skin. They will result in increased oil secretion and lead to increased zits! That's part of the leathery skin. NO STRIDEX, NO OXY... So, go slowly, gently, and get good advice. If you email Kim at I Feel Pretty, she'll help you get on a comprehensive program. Her products are very moderately priced, and have helped my skin tremendously.
Skin Biology discusses the "science" behind my recommendations and pictures / before/after regarding the use of chemical exfoliants and copper peptides. Remember, the samples, can go a really long way!!!

Best of luck!

Aspirin masks can fade scarring and prevent acne as well. If you want to apply the mask to your face, use 4-6 aspirin tablets and just enough water to dissolve the aspirin into a paste-like substance. Apply it to the affected area and allow it to dry for about 15 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and apply a moisturizer. You can apply the mask 1-2 times a week. However, DO NOT use it if you are allergic to aspirin of if you're pregnant.

Good luck!
