Acid Reflux Help???

I have acid reflux but every prescripion drug makes my stomach hurt. So is there any Over the counter alternatives I should try? I already know about prilosec OTC. So other than that?

When I developed acid reflux, I looked up a list of acidic foods. This list is the one that I like the most as it is pretty simple and color coded.
My point: instead of treating the symptoms (acid reflux) try treating the underlying cause of the symptoms (you're eating highly acidic foods, no doubt, which is causing your acid reflux). Try eating a more alkaline diet for a few weeks, and staying away from beef, carbonated drinks, artificial stuff, then slowly reintroduce them back into your diet if you feel you must.

Yeah, it's all based on what the food causes. Lemons and other citrus foods are so acidic that to balance it out in your system, your body creates alkalian to deal with it. The article is really good, and makes more sense than I do about explaining why they consider lemons an alkalian food. Report It

I have experienced many problems with acid reflux, as well as lactose intolerance. Milk products added to my acid reflux is like adding gas to a fire. I too tried most everything. I have found a wonderful natural remedy that has cured my acid reflux, and at the same time my lactose intolerance is gone. The remedy is OSHA root, usually about $7-10 an ounce, and it is available at a herbalist. Suck on a little bit of it. OSHA root definitely has a pungent taste, but with time it becomes tolerable. After a couple days all signs of acid reflux go away. Every couple days take a little more as a maintenance.

Try some liquid Aloe Vera. Take an ounce two or three times a day. You can even mix it with some juice or milk if you want. We all know about how soothing Aloe can be for sunburns...well when taken orally it has many benifitial effects on your gastro-intestinal tract, your liver and kidneys, mucus membrains like in your sinuses. I'm a Chiropractor and I recommend it to my patients all the time. If you need help finding some, the band I use is made by Univera Lifesciences. Go to www.univeralifesciences.com and in the products section choose "Aloe Gold". If you want to order it use ID #1227656 when prompted. Good luck.

There are a lot of non-drug measures you can try before taking drugs. I made my own condition managable by changing my lifestyle.
1. Eat smaller, but more frequent, meals. Don't fill up.
2. Eat smaller quantities of acidic foods, such as tomatoes and sauerkraut. A lot of foods can contribute to the problem, chocolate for one. High-fat foods, also I've heard mint flavoring can be a trigger--ironic, since a lot of the over-the-counter remedies come mint-flavored. You don't have to eliminate all your fun foods necessarily, just limit your quanties. A little google research can result in a list of foods that might be causing your problem. If you're suffering major problems, you might go cold turkey for a spell, but I bet you can later reintroduce yourself to your problem foods.
3. My main problem was throwing up while sleeping. To remedy this, I try not to eat too much for dinner, and try to put 2-3 hours between my last intake of food for the day and bedtime. And I don't snack between dinner and bedtime.
4. Don't sleep on your stomach. Side is best, or back if you can sleep that way--I can't.

Without knowing it, I've had acid reflux for decades. This has caused me a lot of sore throats, which I had thought were "colds" and many times I would have a weak voice for no reason. (Have you ever heard Robt. F Kennedy, Jr speak ? Bet you anything he has acid reflux.) Once I figured out my problem (by myself, with no doctor's involvement), my situation improved dramatically. I not only don't take prescription medicine, I don't take any of the over the counter stuff.
Google will link you to tons of info. I've just scratched the surface of your problem.
Good luck.
