Coca Cola: What is the truth, GOOD or BAD?

I've heard both sides. People say it rothens teeth, causes acid reflux, and doctors elimitate it from diets. However, some recomend it when someone is nauseous or sick in the stomach, or when someone is fainting. So what is it, Good or Bad?

Well, anything can be bad for you if not taken in moderation. Coca Cola wouldn't cause such severe problems if used in moderation.

All sodas are bad for you

BAD , pepsi is the same

good for eliminating corrosion around your car battery. Great for cleaning toilets, does wonders for rotting teeth, and ginger ale is better than coke for an upset stomach.

It's both good and bad. Having too much of anything is bad, which leads to the teeth rotting, acid reflux, etc. Having it once in a while is probably a good idea for coca cola. It is good when you feel sick but that doesn't mean fake sick to have it lol.

It's not good for you!! Period!! It will eat burnt coffee out of coffee pots!! Put some nails in it and leave it for awhile, it will dissolve them! Drink water and juice!!

there bad for you they rot teeth and are both fattening but the original coke helps when you have a hangover

The carbonation (fizzyness) is what is good for an upset stomach. Club soda would do as well. The sugar helps when someone is fainting or nauseous due to low blood sugar. However, if one is not experiencing those symptoms, then a steady ingestion of Coca Cola, whether diet or otherwise, or any other brand of sweet or diet carbonated beverage can cause the problems you noted.

Like many things in life, Coca Cola is not always bad for you, but is not always good for you either.

The sugar in it can contribute to tooth decay, so if you don't brush your teeth then, yes, it will be bad for you. There is also the issue of calories if you're watching your weight.

Coke is like any other soft drink: bad in excess, harmless in moderation.

Coke is generally not a great thing, esp. compared to other beverages like WATER.

Yes, Coke rots teeth. It is acidic, leeches calcium from your bones (thanks to added phosphoric acid) and is full of sugar, contributing to SKYROCKETING rates of obesity. Twelve ounces of Coke has 140 Calories. Get on a treadmill and measure how far you have to run to burn 140 Calories.

If you are nauseous, plain seltzer does a perfectly good job of settling your belly without all the empty calories, caffeine and bone leeching.

If you want an occasional treat, yeah, Coke is tasty. But limit yourself. You do NOT need 32 ounces of the stuff with your burger and fries.

Coka Cola is full of sugar and caffine...OF COURSE it isn't healthy!

Cola drinks have 3 ingredients that possibly be harmful to health:

1. Sweeteners. Sugar in soft drinks (including non-cola drinks) increases
the possibility of dental caries ("cavities"). Non-nutritive sweeteners
such as saccharin and aspartame also have undesirable side-effects in
specific population segments. Nutritive sweeteners are a significant
source of calories in the diet (about 250 per serving of a soft drink).

2. Caffein. This "upper" is added specifically to cola drinks as a class.
It is a diuretic and can elevate blood pressure. It has been suggested as
connected to development of rheumatoid arthritis.

3. Phosphoric acid. This acid is typically only used in cola drinks, which
are very acidic (low pH) compared to other soft drinks. This can increase
the rate of enamel loss from teeth. Phosphates in general are a
nutritional problem when ingested in volume without corresponding calcium.
This results in decalcification of bone tissue, accelerating osteoporosis
in the aged.

The example of Coke removing tarnish from a penny is irrelevant to health
issues. Water and salt will cause iron to rust away, but they're both
essential to life. Your stomach acid is much stronger than that in Coke.
By the way, I've heard a microbiologist say he used to drink a Coke
quickly after accidentally sucking up diluent through a pipet. He claimed
the Coke was protective against the bacteria. I don't think I accept this
argument, but it shows the "flip-side" of the penny example.

Here are my recommendations based on a rational assessment of the above:

1. Soft drinks and coffee should be ingested in moderation. Avoid more
than 4 servings a day.

2. If you are at risk for osteoporosis, avoid soft drinks with phosphoric
acid (e.g., colas).

3. Drinking the diet form of soft drinks can eliminate 1000 calories or
more per day from the diet and will reduce the incidence of sugar-related
dental caries.

good,yet bad

Mostly you want to avoid drinking it...but do drink a bit when you have an upset stomache...it does help...like medicine...medicine all the time isn't good for you but a bit when you need it is fine.

Good for: cleaning chrome, cleaning up blood, rotting teeth.

Bad for: cleaning toilets.

Also, do NOT drink 6 cans of Coke and then eat 6 packs of PopRocks as they will most likely make your stomach explode.

It's great for cleaning blood stains from the pavement.
Bad for everything else.
Phosphoric acid with lead to osteoporosis.

Here's my take...it's loaded with sugar which is bad, causes tooth decay and is a major contributor to obesity in our society. Also it's loaded with caffeine which is an unnecessary chemical for humans that is addictive to us, making us want it more. Here's my recommendation...use a can of coke in your washing machine if you have some oily or greasy clothes to clean, it works just as well as a chemical stain remover. My vote....bad!

don't they use coke to clean blood off the roads (in car accidents)??? that's what i heard

that alone makes me not want to drink it..

They're all poison, basically. I wouldn't drink it too much. I only do when there's nothing else to drink and only on special ocassions.
