Do I have Stomach Cancer?

I have been on Nexium for Acid Reflux for a few months now. But I now have a loss of appetite. Think one meal a day. If that. I had bloating which was a painful first experience. No Vomiting. Though. Not much weight loss though. I exercise so that might cause the few pounds off.

No probably not. But it's always a good idea to get routine cancer screenings anyway, just to make sure and to put your worries to rest.

My mom passed away from stomach cancer. I don't claim to know everything about it, but I'll tell you about what she went through. She did have a decreased appetite, and this went on for months. I don't think she was even able to eat one meal a day after some time. As a result she lost a lot of weight. She was also more fatigued than normal. When she went to the doctor, they did X-rays and discovered that the reason for her lack of hunger was because food was not passing through her stomach and into her intestines, but instead staying in her stomach and fermenting. Later they found out that the reason for food not passing through was due to a large cancerous tumor blocking the passageway from the stomach to the intestine.

In the late stages of my mom's cancer, she began vomitting black liquid bile. It was uncontrollable vomitting that would not stop.

The reason we didn't take preventive measures, is because we didn't even know it was cancer until 5 days before she passed. All of the cancer tests came up negative. The doctors had "no clue" it was cancer until they cut open my mom to perform a surgery to remove the malfunctioning stomach(and in turn connect the esophagus to the small intestine via a J-tube). When they cut her open, they found large visible tumors throughout her stomach, especially in the passageway...by this point it was very far progressed.

Is it possible that your decreased appetite is a side effect from the Nexium? Ask your doctor and if so, see if you can switch to an alternative medication.

If a doctor confirms that there IS a stomach blockage problem, preventing food from passing through the stomach, it is not necessarily due to cancer. There are many disorders, such as gastroenterparesis, that can cause a malfunctioning or "shut-down" of the stomach. My ex's mom went through this shortly after my mom passed away. My ex thought his mom too had stomach cancer, but fortunately it was not cancer, and his mom recovered.

Stomach cancer is very rare. However, it is good to get it checked out anyway. It is also good to seek 2nd and 3rd opinons if you have any doubts. But overall, happily I don't think you have cancer.

maybe you have an eating disorder. you should go see your doctor just in case. maybe a stomach virus
