Long term affects of Prilosec??

I've been on Prilosec for a year. I had nausea for a few months (not reflux) & so the DR did an upper endoscopy where he discovered I had Barrett's Esphagus, which is a pre-cancerous condition caused by reflux, so he gave me Prilosec even though I told him I don't have reflux alot... just a few times.

Well now I HAVE to take it every night or I have bad bad reflux. My mother told me that these "proton pump inhibitor" drugs prevents the release of acid in your stomach.... but that you NEED acid in your stomach to digest your food.

So now I'm worried that I may not be absorbing nutrients from my food and other potential problems. Any doctors out there know the long term affects of being on Prilosec? My doctor insists I be ON it due to Barrett's.

i started having problems with my stomach when i was pregnant. she's 5 now. i just recently had to go in for the nisson surgury. (not fun). do what the doctor say's.

I would trust your doctor. if you dont then ask a pharmacist or get a 2nd opinion from a different doctor.
