Acid Reflux and lower back pain may be caused by meds?

Hi there I am a 26 year old female I am a little over weight and am taking Phentermine 37.5mg to get it under control. Also I have borderline high blood pressure so I am on Benicar 20mg for that. my doctor has prescribed both of these. I take both in the morning and then a half of phentermine at lunch.

Lately I have been having horrible acid reflux especially at night. And lower back pain. I was wondering if anyone has had these problems. Or even an idea to get rid of the acid reflux. I have tried everything Mylanta, Pepcid AC. And I am still miseriable. It is effecting my sleep since when I lay down it feels really uncomfortable. Someone anyone please help! I go back to see my doctor on Sept. 13 but until then any way to relieve the pressure would be great!

I have the same problem, and I am taking the same medications, but I don't take phentermine at lunch, only in the morning. I have a hiatal hernia, which is inoperable, and I take Zantac 150 mg everyday. It works wonders. Even if you are not having the reflux, take it anyway. It will prevent it from disturbing your sleep. I was 26 when my problem began and now I am 40, so I know what I am talking about. I hope this helps!

call your doctor or go to the ER.

2 things to eliminate reflux- elavate the head of your bed 6-8 inches (can use books, cinder blocks whatever) and STOP eating before bed. Make your last meal 4-5 hours before bed. Don't drink or eat anything with mint oil in it or tomatoes or major spices. Pepcid ac did not work for me but zantac (generic-rantidine?) worked great.

Hi Bloobgirl13:
For your acid reflux try using Gaviscon syrup (Alginate compound) 2 tsp at bed time.Iam sure you will get alot of relief from pain.As for your back pain ,sleep on a straight hard surfaced bed and you will definitely find some result after a fortnight.Hope this solves your problem.
