Acid reflux...yikes?

I have acid reflux well thats what the doctor said, but i feel so nautious and my heart does burn but does acid reflux make u feel like u wanna throw up and sometimes when u smell stuff too?

Heartburn is an unpleasant feeling of burning within the chest area caused by acid in the esophagus. Heartburn at night is called nighttime heartburn.
GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, refers to the clinical manifestations of reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus.
Heartburn is caused when acid from the stomach flows upwards into the esophagus. Unlike the stomach, which has a lining that protects it from the acid, the esophagus is delicate and easily irritated by acid. Nighttime heartburn is heartburn that occurs at night.

Anyone can have occasional heartburn (for example, as might occur after a spicy meal). Frequent and recurring heartburn, however, may be a symptom of a more serious condition: erosive GERD.

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is caused when the opening between the esophagus and the stomach becomes looser or relaxes at the wrong times. .

I have the nausea and wanting to throw up especially at night and have take Protonix for many years.

I've never really heard of it making your nauseous, but I'm sure it's possible. If you can get something like Prilosec or Tagamet over the counter, getting the reflux under control is the first step. If you're no longer having bouts of acid in your esophagus, and you're still feeling nauseous, it would be a good idea to contact your doctor again.

No your doc is a quack. Those aren't the symptoms.

yes. Now prilosec and nexium will eliminate the problem but it could cause constipation and or irritable Bowell syndrome witch hurts like hell. I suggest taking the meds but also take a bulk producing fiber laxative once a day.

yes it will make you feel like you want to throw up, when it builds up in the throat, will also leave a funky taste in your mouth too, but when you smell stuff, I think thats more of a personal preference to something.

Well acid reflux can give the feeling as if you were going to throw up, but it isn't really nausea. It's just feeling the gunk at the top of your throat ready to go into your mouth, and well . . . It sucks.

I would suggest talking with your doctor about possibly getting on some sort of medication to prevent this from occurring. It's possible that even just taking a couple tums as needed with completely curb it, but acid reflux is usually a bit more severe than your everyday complaints about heartburn.

my friend has acid reflux and i know she feels sick before she throws up, but if you arnt actually throwing up it could potentially be something else, definately ask your doctor if there are any other options but it could be that you just have it mildly.
good luck

Yes.

It sucks, I know. Try having a hairball for a month and not even realizing it was acid reflux swelling ... I tried to pull that hair out of my throat for weeks on end!

The doc will help. Follow the diet change suggestions, please. I resisted only to have to adjust when the meds did not fix the problem right away.

Good luck!
