Ankle pain during/after ballet class? |
In the middle of ballet class yesterday, my ankle started hurting when I pointed or when en pointe. It still hurts when I do so. My ankle hurts around the Achilles tendon area, but it does not look swollen or red, nor show any other symptoms of any injury. What could it be and what should I do? It doesn't hurt when I walk. well i dont take ballet but i can assume that when you stand on ur tipitoes and then do all those things people can get injuries very often. most of the ballet consists of ur feet movement too It's strain from overuse. You need to take care of it because it could get worse in time and cause you a lot of trouble. The people in charge of your ballet classes should know about this and be able to tell you how to care for the ankle to prevent further damage. Try resting it, putting some ice on it when it hurts, strapping it up for extra support when practising your ballet and when you can sit with it elevated. See if this helps. Could be a minor sprain. Nothing to worry about. If you stretch well before class, then the strain could be tied to overuse or it may be a sign you need additional support in the area through having an instructor taping it up properly. To be safe, you may want to have the legs checked out by a doctor in sports medicine. You may not have warmed up properly. You may have some inflammation. You also could have strained or sprained a muscle or done some other damage. Ice it & if that doesn't help see an orthopedist. Make sure your stretching before you do your points - also ask your intructor if there is anything you can do to ease the pain! It could be just muscle fatigue or mild sprain. You could have used an ice-pack immediately after the injury, but now,it's not going to do much good. Now you can apply a local pain killer ointment and give rest to the part for a few days, till the pain goes. I've had ankle problems before so i know what your going through i guess. What i used to help my ankle is i used haldi. Haldi is an old indian cure for sore muscles and stuff like that. Look it up on yahoo or something and i'm sure you'll find out how to make it. Hope that helps. |

Most likely just a sprain. They can hurt like heck!!!! I've had enough of them in my lifetime. Just basically do what your school nurse said to do. Wrap it in an ace, and try not to walk on it... I had it when I was younger and yes - it does hurt like hell. I was diagnosed when I was 7 and was in a lot of pain when I tried to run around with the other kids. None of the physio excersises hel... All sprains feel like that? Relax, it will hurt constantly.. As for the moving aroung, maybe you have an alien larva in your tendon :) ...I'm sorry I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you sprained it. If it doesn't feel better in a day or two I'd go have someone look at it to be sure. ...No one here can answer your questions! That's for the medical community! Try finding a reputable orthopedic surgeon and have him re-evaluated. As for the first quack, a good lawyer and a medic... There is a slight chance that you tore a ligament and it healed improperly. This creates a problem, because if this is the case, the reason you are still having problems is because scare tissue has... It can take up to a year or more to heal. You need to follow the advise of your doctors. What is wrong with surgery? Ligaments won't heal on their own if they're torn. Talk to your doctor... |
