I have a question regarding a dental abcess?

I had a root canal done at the end of May. Prior to having it done my face had swollen up like a blowfish over a weekend. I have had 4 different courses of anti-biotics & have taken NSAIDS & I still have a small abscess at the gum that is sore. Is that normal? My dentist says the root canal is fine even thought the tooth is still slightly sore if I bite on it & has no idea why the swell in my gum will not go down.

Get a second opinion from a root canal specialist called an endodontist. It is possible that there was an extra (accessory) canal that the dentist missed. You shouldn't still be getting drainage.

no is not shold have had it pulled it should have went away in a few days

You need to talk to the dentist about it, it could need to be drained even though you did have a root canal. Or go to a oral specialist. You should not still be swollen, the swelling is the puss created by the infection.

How long has it been since the root canal??? I've had quite a few of these done and had the same problem. My dentist took out the temp filling and "flushed" the canal there was still a little stuff in there. It could also be that your denstist sucks and didn't actually get the entire nerve out! I would go back to him and if he doesn't resolve the issue I think maybe you should find a new dentist. Good luck I know from experience that you have got to be very uncomfortable.

I recently found out how bad root canals are for your body. I had my first one started in May; had to go back for several visits due to pain. Found myself a HOLISTIC dentist, who examined and x-rayed me and discovered that the previous dentist really wasn't doing much. I decided to just extract that tooth; best decision I made in 10 years! I just don't want a 'dead' tooth in my mouth for the rest of my life. Also you can find GSE Grapefruit seed extract at your local health food store to use as a rinse. It is a natural germ killer and promotes healing. Good luck!

I suggest that you visit another Dentist, yours it is not the best. I have had root canals and I never experience any problems like yours. It is obvious the discomfort for a day but the rest of your symtoms are something to think about. Please visit an specialist. Roots canals are done by an endodoncist. I hope I answer your question, for the time being use Amosan to flush your mouth. Put the amosan in a lillte warm water. Good luck
