Im I'm afraid I might slap the dentist? |
I go in on thursday to have my wisdom teeth looked at because one of them are abscessed and it has been hurting like mad for the last couple of weeks I went ot the ER and got antibiotics an pain meds (which the pain meds didn't help).I think there is an exposed nerve because it hurts when I smile or certin facial expressions and shoots pain in there. Now I really don't want anyone poking around in there touching it, I'm afraid I might slap them away or push them away if they hit that nerve again.I'm not a mean person and wouldn't do this normaly but I'm afaid I might do this in a state of panic.what should I tell my denist? what should I do? Seriously, I have been here. What you need to do is call the dentist office and tell the receptionist girl that you are afraid you are going to slap the doctor and can you have Valium or Xanax. They will only give you like 3 pills, but it will be enough that you won't care what he does to you. He should also give you ONE extra heavy duty pain pill to take before you come into for your appointment. you wont be the first to have to go through that, just let your dentist know in advance, maybe they can strap you down, i dont think you can be responsible for the first 5 seconds of slapping, anythign after that might be a problem, closed fist is not a slap I suggest telling them what hurts and how sensitive it is to start with. I've had an abscessed tooth and it was very tender even to touch with my finger. Well this future dentist ( I went to a University where they are in training) took the mirror and tapped on the sore took with the blunt end. It almost sent me through the roof. Then he said, "yep, that's the one". I TOLD HIM THAT ALREADY! Anyway, most dentists wouldn't do that. I've gone to my current dentist about anothe painful tooth and he just lightly touched my tooth with his finger, using varying pressure, to see how sensitive it was. Ouch! I hope you're going to have those teeth extracted. It is very important that you tell the dentist it is extremely sensitive and you would prefer he/she look at it, but not touch it. X-rays should confirm the abscess; if the technician has to put one of those cardboard "things" into your mouth, do it yourself. |
