Dr. Sam...anyone is this normal??

I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted on friday...lower right was abscessed and no antibiotcs he just pulled it..is this safe? and now the holes look kinda dark brown/red with white stuff...I feel good and little sore but okay...does this mean I am healing or infection of some kind?? thanks a bunch

My abscess wasnt too extreme...no swellling or any dangers as far as I know..just showed up on X-ray and hurt like heck!!! could this be why no anitbiotics?

I'm not Dr. Sam, but maybe I can help until he sees your question:

Not every abscess needs antibiotics. Were you swollen and on antibiotics before the extraction? Antibiotics are given to reduce swelling and/or reduce & localize infection before the extraction is done (large abcess) or to help prevent post-op infections when a lot of bone has to be removed in order to extract the tooth. It is not uncommon to see evidence of infection when you extract a tooth. Usually, you can get most or all of it out during the extraction. Again, antibiotics would be indicated if there was concern about residual infection.

As for the brown/red/white stuff: it sounds like some clotting, some healing(red/brown), and some sloughing(white). As new tissue is formed during healing, the old tissus sloughs off.

It sounds like you're healing.

Sorry I missed your question, but idforya and Robert both gave a good answer. Report It

This is normal. Mine were pulled with no meds either. The holes aredark red/brown because thats the color of the blood clotting so it can heal. The white does not sound good though. You should try to brush or just visit the dentist because white is usually not good....but that may just be the build up because you can't brush there.
