If you have wobbly tooth and plan to have a plate attached to the wobbly tooth, what are the consequences? |
My boyfriend had an abscess in this wobbly tooth, now he is due to have a the dental plate attached to it. I am concerned that it will all be a waste of time and he will lost yet another tooth. My boyfriend is under the impression that is it going to be fixed to his wobbly tooth. He describes it as a permanent plate which is not removable. And was advised to full a strict cleaning regime to strenghten the bone, but the tooth is still lose. He is in his 50s. The dentist will remove the tooth and replace it with a denture. A plate with a tooth attached. Probably better to get the tooth fixed and see if it will tighten back up. If it is loose, you may be able to get it to heal enough that it could withstand a plate, but only if there are other teeth the plate will also attach to. Do not get a plate that puts all the weight on this tooth. Because this tooth obviously has bone loss and worsened bone loss due to the abscess, it will eventually be lost and even faster if the plate puts too much pressure on it. A periodontist might be able to graft some bone back to help save it. If other teeth are involved in holding the plate in it will probably be ok for a while but later he may lose it and it can then be added to the plate if there are other teeth to still hold the plate. Don't spend money on a partial to only lose this tooth and then buy a denture. You may need a second opinion. It sounds like you're describing a dental bridge. I don't think that any respectable dentist would ever use a "wobbly" tooth as an abutment, since the bridge would ultimately fail. The dentist may choose to extract the tooth in question and extend the bridge. |
