Abscesses, please help!!!?

I had an abscess in my groin area and had it drained. Now a month later after antibiotics and antibacterial washes it becamse tender and now the following day it has a hole which blood and pus is leaking out. Basically what causes these things and how do I get rid of this hole and get it to heal. I am not sure whether or not to go to the er or what. PLEASE HELP

You should certainly have the drainage cultured for MRSA (methecillin resistant staphillococcus aureus) and get the "correct" antibiotics for the particular strain you have (IF that's what you have. This can be done in the E.R..
A good antibacterial wash is called HIBICLENS. You can purchase it in any pharmacy.
Good luck!

when you went to the dr, did they test what was in the abscess? go to a dermatologist.
if not all the antibiotics in the world will not help, you need the one for that viral infection.
then you need a good anti-bacterial soap such as Lever 2000and go to the section like at Rite Aid where you get soap for acne find one with high content anti-bacterial ask druggist.
also you most likely need extra vit.C too

It sounds like a boil which infects a hair follicle with a staph bacteria. White blood cells (neutrophils) move in to kill the bacteria forming the pus.

Try using hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil and wipe the pus away, do this several times a day.
If it's just a hole try otc triple antibiotic ointment. When you find only blood it means the abscess is no longer infected.

If it doesn't seem to close up call MD

Good Luck

you need to call the Dr. who drained it and let him know about the drainage . sometimes these types of cyst need to be packed to ensure that they heal from the inside out,or they will heal over the infection and just have recurrence

I believe that you have a condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa. It is a condition of re-occurring boils/ cysts/abscesses , that are often misdiagnosed as ingrown hairs, herpes, being unclean and folliculitis. This is a newly diagnosed skin condition , but there is a lot of info out there.
Here is a link :

If this sounds like it might be you, READ it, PRINT it out, and TAKE it to your DOC.
Its better to try to start treatment soon, it can spread over the body if left untreated. These boils can become quite large and painful. Sometimes even lasting for weeks or months and can spread all over the body. Most common areas are armpits, groin, binkni line, inner legs, and intimate places and basically anywhere that sweats and rub against clothing. Stress is a big inducer.

There is some support groups at MSN , and yahoo, and I am open for questions!
I have had this for 8 years, I was misdiagnosed for a LONG time, It was very embarrassing, painful and scary. I am just trying to help out so you don鈥檛 have to wait as long as I did.
