HELP! Abscess??? |
So for almost a week now I have had a bubble on my gum on and off. It is a blister like pea size bubble on my gum right below my back molar. It doesn't hurt too bad, just slightly sore. Occasionally I will go to sleep and wake up with it gone. Then it sometimes comes back later or the next day. I wasn't sure if it was an abscess since I have had abscesses before and they always hurt excruciatingly bad. So I was wondering if anyone knows what this is. Can I pop it? How do I get rid of it? Is it harmful or dangerous? YES! It is an abcess, the blister that you refer to is called a fistula. It is a pimple like lesion that drains that abcess of the tooth through the gum, it is the path of least resistance, the soft tissue easier to drain through than the tooth. The reason why you are not in too much pain is because it is draining, if you didn't have the fistula, you would have a killer toothache due to the pressure backing up in the tooth. The reason why it comes and goes is because it breaks and the built up pus is draining but then it fills back up again because it is a chronic infection. Taking antibiotics that are not prescribed for this specific infection can lead to antibiotic resistance but, taking it will help. Not that I am giving advice to take the Penicillin that you have, but most likely that is what a dentist would give to you to get it going, but the tooth needs to be treated either by 1 of 2 options. 1st is a root canal where they will open up the tooth and remove the dying nerve tissue and drain the rest of the abcess. 2nd is having the tooth pulled. If at all possible, I would try to have the root canal, but it is costly. If you don't have the money, then go to a free clinic. Go to your county's website and find the number for Social Services. They will find a dentist for you to go to. Take a dry tea bag and tuck it in between your teeth and the blister, if it's an abscess it will draw the infection out...if it doesn't hurt, it doesn't really sound like an abscess, but this can help! It is probably just a canker sore. Leave it alone... |
