Which antibiotic should one take specifically for an abscessed tooth? |
I Currently am suffering from an abscessed tooth. I know I need to go to the dentist. However, my situation is as such, that I cannot go to a dentist right now. In the past, I have been prescribed penicillin, ampicillin, and erythromycin for my abscesses. This time I have Dicloxacillin to cure the infection. Because it was not prescribed by a dentist, I am wondering if it will work. I always thought that specific antibiotics took care of specific infections. Opposed to any antibiotic can taking care of any affection. If so then why have so many different antibiotics on the market? Oh yeah, for the money (how could I forget). Anyway thanks for your input While it's true that there are some antibiotics for certain ailments (they always give me biaxin for my sinus infections). There are types of general antibiotics that will do a general job. ceclor(cefaclory) it should work just fine. Try and get some Amoxacillan 500mg Tabs - take one a few times a day - But see you Doctor /Dentist First !! Your doctor or dentist will have to see you to prescribe proper antibiotics because they are specific. You need to go ASAP because abscessed teeth are especially dangerous. Regardless of your situation, there must be a public clinic in your area or some way to obtain the required care. Check your public health agencies and non-profit agencies. You should take the one that your dentist recommends. He knows best. Take the medicine that the dentist give you. If you are not allergic to it, you should take it. Amoxicillin is appropriate as "pink thong" suggests, I was also prescribed Ampicillin, as you have in your question (but it gave me the runs, if you want to know!) |
