Residual pain from a past kidney abscess? Left flank...?

I know that kidney abscesses are rare but I'm hoping someone out there has some experience with this... I believe I had one last year. I was treated with a heavy dose of antibiotics for a kidney infection. When images were taken of my kidneys both at the urgent care and the ER, the technicians all thought it was an abscess. Then the specialist came along and squashed that (before even looking at the images!). He told me I had a cyst. I no longer believe that to be true. Have since sought a second opinion (because I still have pain on and off in there) and had another ultrasound last Fri. Called today for results and was told by the nurse that she couldn't really tell me what she saw, not to worry but I may need more tests.

Basically I am wondering if an old abscess (which may still be healing) could cause some left flank pain with no other symptoms or if it is likely something else?

Sure it's possible. You may have developed scar tissue from the abscess. Go back to see the Dr. and let them do further tests.
