What to do about an abscessed jaw?

I think I have an abscessed jaw but I'm not sure. A couple days ago I noticed my jaw hurting. When I examined my jaw, I found a small white patch about the size of a child's pinky nail sliver. It's caused my jaw to become swollen and it hurts really really bad.
I've never had cavities in my life and there's nothing wrong with my teeth.
I dont have medical insurance so I cant go to the dentist or the doctor because I cant afford it. Do I have an abscessed jaw and if so, what can I do to make it go away?
I still have amoxicillin prescribed for a sinus infection from long ago. Should I take that? What do I do?

It's either an infection or an abscess- you need to see a professional to get diagnosed. If it is an abscess it's not going to go away on it's own and while antibiotics might make it feel better, it's not going to fix the problem. Don't take antibiotics unless a doctor specifically prescribes them to you for your current problem. I had something similar recently and I went to a local university's dental school - I wound up having surgery to clear the abscess + antibiotics and it was all under $600. They offered a payment plan too, so I didn't have to pay it all at once if I didn't want to.

no, dont just start taking a med- depending on how long ago the med was from it might not be any good anyway-
u can call around to local places and see if there are any resources for low cost dental services- like at a dentistry school or something
