Wisdom tooth or abscess?

my dentist told me i could "wait awhile" to have my wisdom teeth pulled, but they need to come out "eventually". Which is good, as i won't have any more than one day off in a row until September.

Yesterday, i had a bit of food caught in my back molar, next to the unexposed wisdom tooth. I flossed it out,and it bleed a bit and hurt, so i rinsed with salt water, but it still hurts a bit now, Advil makes it nearly painless.

The gum is a bit swollen and tender. I've looked into this online, and from what i read, it MAY be my tooth erupting causing the pain, or it may be abscess.

I'm worried, is this an abscess?

I've heard an abscess can KILL YOU, so I'm afraid, but it's the weekend, and the dentist is closed. Should i go to the urgent care, or can i wait on this until i can get ahold of the dentist?

it's feeling better than it did yesteray, and there's no fever, pus or foul odor, apparently telltale signs of abscess.

Take it from someone who has had PLENTY of abscesses in her day, you do not have one. It sounds like the food that you got caught between your gum and tooth just irritated your wisdom tooth which is bound to come in eventually.

Or it could've been the flossing. Either way, if you can afford it, it never hurts to visit the dentist to make sure. But I could probably bet that it's not an abscess so rest assured.

Even if it were an abcess, they can kill you, but if they're treated with antibiotics and the infected tooth (maybe) removed, everything will be fine. The chances of you actually dying from an abcsess is slim. Thankfully, or I'd be dead already.

But yeah, I'd wait until Monday or whenever then go see your dentist. I don't see the need to panic.

i have had a abcess on my gum and it has nothing to do with my teeth as i had an x ray and they were fine what could it be from lespena Report It

Listerine mouth wash works better than salt water. I would get that tooth removed before it really starts to hurt. After it really starts to hurt you won`t care about missing work. All you will be doing is trying to find a dentist to remove it.

If it is an absess DO NOT use mouth wash in that area of your mouth frequently just to stop the pain. It will only irritate it more.
whatever it may be. I would suggest taking an Aleve until I had an appointment.

btw. Yes it may cause death but it wont be an instant thing.
The nerve will cause a part of your brain to hurt which will become severe in which eventually you'll slip into a bit of insanity when that happens you'll be seeing a Neurologist which will tell you to get your tooth pulled and have them clean the infection.
So yeah there will be a series of things that will happen long before any death caused by an infected tooth.

So no worries just get it fixed.

Stop worrying. From your description; it shouldn鈥檛 be an abscess. The signs and symptoms of abscess typically include pus buildup, severe, continuous tooth pain, bitter taste and odor and possible fever. It shouldn鈥檛 be caused by your wisdom tooth. In my opinion, I think you have pain from gingivitis. The symptoms of gingivitis include swelling, redness, pain, and bleeding of the gums, like in your description. Just to be on the safe side, you should see a dentist to determine the actual reason.

Not an abcess. An abcess is like a blister on you gums near the infected tooth. Your wisdom teeth are erupting and the food just irritated it. No biggie
