I got a dental abscess, took antibiotics, now I got swollen under my jaw. What is that? |
I got a a dental abscess near the lower part of my jaw. Now the abscess is ok after taking amoxicillin but my jaw and the left part of my neck is swollen, I have a hard time open my mouth or swallowing. Any ideas before I go to the doctor tomorrow? Forget the MD... get your butt to the ER. Sounds like the infection has gotten out of control. If you have stopped taking the amoxicillin it is probably still the abscess. Abscessesses will recur until either the tooth has root canal therapy or the tooth is removed. I think you have residual infection...might be a pus filled sac. That frequently happens. you will probably need a root canal Sounds like the pus from the abcess has drained out the apex of the tooth (root) and is now building up in the surrounding areas as it has nowhere else to go. You need to root treat the tooth or extract although a local anaesthetic is unlikely to work at the moment and another course of anti b's or opening the tooth to drain will be required initially. Probably swollen lymph gland. That is part of filtering sytem of the body. DMD here Will go down |
