What is a D and E? I think it has something to do with abortions?

a D&C and a D&E are the same thing. But, the term D&C is used more often. It is a way to "clean out" the uterus. And it does not always have to do with an abortion (whether theraputic abortion or spontaneous). It can be used to collect tissue for a biopsy or to help stop heavy bleeding.

Intact dilation and extraction (IDX or Intact D&X), is a surgical abortion procedure wherein an intact fetus is removed from the womb via the cervix. The procedure may also be used to remove a deceased fetus, resulting from a miscarriage, that is developed enough to require dilation of the cervix for extraction.

D and C is a procedure to scrape and collect the tissue (endometrium) from inside the uterus. Dilatation ("D") is a widening of the cervix to allow instruments into the uterus. Curettage ("C") is the scraping of the contents of the uterus.

I think it is called a D&C or a DNC. My mother had one done when she was going through menopause so I definitely don't think it is an abortion. It's more like a cleaning of the womb.

not just abortions, but miscarriges, and the like. it is a detailed cleaning to help prevent future infections. Im no DR. so if you need more information and details you should call your OB/GYN.

It is a "dilatation and extraction", in which the cervix is dilated with rods, and the contents of the uterus are removed. It may be used in the case of fetal demise, and the baby hasn't been expelled from the mother. Or it can be an elective termination of a viable pregnancy.

I think you mean D and C. It is a procedure to scrape and collect the tissue (endometrium) from inside the uterus after an abortion or miscarriage
Dilatation ("D") is a widening of the cervix to allow instruments into the uterus. Curettage ("C") is the scraping of the contents of the uterus.

D is Dilation and E is Evacuation of Abortion...

D&E (Dilatation and Evacuation)
a procedure in which the cervix is dilated and tissue is removed from the uterus.

its scraping the womb and cleaning it out. its done most often after a miscarriage in case any material is left that could cause a infection.

It's called a D & C and its when you need to be cleaned inside, it is mostly done after a misscaridge, abortions or other forms of loss or medical conditions. I hope this answers your question in laymans terms.

The proper designation is D&C, which is an abbreviation for dilation and curretage. It is a proceedure done in an operating room under anesthesia and sterile conditions. Most often done after a woman has had a miscarriage but bits of the products of conception are left behind. Those bits can cause dangerous bleeding and can also leave the woman more succeptible to severe infections.

The same proceedure is used in first-trimester abortions.
