Is it true that Yasmin (or any birth control pill) can cause abortions?

When birth control pills are taken daily as prescribed, they do not cause abortions. They prevent an egg from being release from the ovary every month and thicken cervical mucus to prevent sperm from entering the uterus.

No Egg Released = No Fertilization = No Abortion

Also, Plan B does not cause abortions. It also prevents an egg from being release from the ovary if one hasn't been released already, it toughens up the egg's outer layer to prevent sperm from penetrating the egg, and in the event that fertilization has taken place, it prevents the egg from implanting in the uterus.

However, if a fertilized egg has already implanted in the uterus and the Plan B pill is taken, nothing will happen. This will not cause an abortion.

No..

not true, the morning after pill can do damage similar to an abortion if taken more than the recommened 72 hours after unprotected sex

If you take it within 72 hours of becoming pregnant, yes.

As a catholic we look down upon birth control because when you take it, you get pregnant but there is a certain medicine in which the pill kills the baby. It is just like the morning after pill, except it doesn't need to be in your system as long as the pill.

If you take birth control pills while pregnant it does increase the risk of spontaneous abortion (usually termed miscarraige).
Sometimes birth control pills are given in high doses as a morning after pill to prevent pregnancy.
I don't know why you are asking the question so my suggestion is you talk with your doctor or pharmacist to find out what the actions and risks of taking the medications are.

I think you are pretty safe if you take it as percribed. They are birth control pills for a reason, they don't allow you to get pregnant even though their is that very slight chance that you get pregnant, it is very unlikely.

The whole point of birth control pills is to fool your body into thinking it is pregnant so that you don't ovulate. If you don't ovulate, there is no egg present and you cannot get pregnant.

The morning after pill prevents implantation. If there was an egg present and IF it was fertilized (two big IF's by the way) then the morning after pill prevent implantation of the fertilized egg.

If you are already pregnant a birth control pill can mess with your hormones and there is an increased risk of miscarriage.
