HOW do miscarriages happen?

I'm asking because I watched Saw IV, and one woman had a miscarriage when she got scared.

Then I was watching Depserate Housewives (season 2) and Gabby had a miscarriage when she got scared b/c there was an intruder in the house (well, he was going after her) but she freaked out and fell down the stairs.

So, is that how miscarriages occur? By getting scared? Why do people have abortions then, can't they just ... well, get freaked out (pay people to scare them w/e) and lose the baby that way?

Sorry, just asking! =]

Oh, haha sorry my eyes were closed during that part of the movie. I get really scared.

Oh, and thanks for the retarded comment. (First answerer)

The most common cause of pregnancy loss is a random chromosome abnormality that occurs during fertilization. For fertilization to occur, the chromosomes in the nucleus of both the egg and the sperm need to join into 23 pairs (46 total chromosomes). Sometimes this pairing does not happen correctly and that can impede the development of the fetus.

Other factors that could contribute to a miscarriage include:

fertilization late after ovulation
low or high levels of the thyroid hormone
uncontrolled diabetes
exposure to environmental and workplace hazards, such as radiation or toxic agents
uterine abnormalities
incompetent cervix, or when the cervix begins to open (dilate) and thin (efface) before the pregnancy has reached term
certain medications (mostly prescription), such as the acne drug Accutane
Certain behaviors also increase the risk of a miscarriage. Smoking, for example, puts nicotine and other chemicals into the bloodstream that cause the blood vessels in the placenta to spasm, which decreases the blood flow to the uterus. Smokers also have a lower level of oxygen in their blood, which means the fetus gets less oxygen. Alcohol and illegal drugs have been proved to lead to miscarriages. There is no evidence that stress or sexual activity contributes to miscarriage

hmm are u retarded

They can happen all sorts of ways....u can have a miscarrige from being too stressed out...but the top reason would be because a problem with the developing baby..not because of getting scared

she didn't get scared in saw IV she was hit by the door handle when the robber opend the door on her..and in despirate house wives she got a miscarrage by falling down the stairs, you can't have a miscarrage by getting scared, thats just dumb, do you think women can actually go 9 months without getting scared? wow! thats all i have to say

No one can say for sure why a woman will miscarry but its pretty safe to say that being scared isn't going to do it. Usually it has to do with early trauma to the baby, an inhospitible womb, or lack of certain hormones the baby needs. Then again sometimes babys are born against all odds. I'm pretty sure though that its not just from being scared.

There are other stories also. Don't confuse your good selves into such nasty thoughts for the philosophy of miscarriage and the abortion. Nothing is going to happen In your case.

Physical trauma can cause a miscarriage. So can defects in the fetus, malnutrition, serious infections, smoking, alcohol use and hormone imbalances.
