Which Abortion method is safer?

I've researched on the 2 types of abortion. All the sources that I found state that the risks are equal for both methods. However, for the medical abortion, the risks mainly involve an incomplete abortion. I was wondering if given that the abortion is successful, would the long term risks for the medical abortion be lower because it is non-invasive?

As far as serious complications the risks are equal. Medical abortions are 97% effective and surgical abortions are 99% effective so as you stated in your question the risk of the pregnancy continuing with a medical abortion is slightly higher. Medical abortions can only be done early in the pregnancy (you can't be over 8 weeks I believe). The side effects of medical abortions tend to be slightly worse (not the serious complications) - the bleeding tends to be heavier and the cramping tends to be slightly worse.

Aside from that though (the side effects and the slightly reduced effectiveness) most women who have had both have preferred the medical abortion simply because it is less invasive and seems more natural inducing a miscarriage as opposed to having the contents of your uterus vacuumed out. So it really doesn't come down to risks (which are quite minimal, the risks involved with carrying a child to term are actually greater), it comes down to personal preferences.

dont get an abortion. your killing a possible person...just like yourself. "everyone who was for slavery was free, everyone for abortion is ALIVE."

No abortion!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont care if it is for you or not dont punish the baby for your mistake put it up for adoption if you have to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No method is safe. I think the entire concept of abortion is wrong. It's ending a life. Even if it were medically safe, the emotional scars would last a lifetime. My aunt tells me a lot she wished she would have kept 2 of her children.

I dont think abortion should b done unless 2 things insue. 1) the pregnant woman was raped n 2) it would b a life threatening situation for the woman to carry the child.

that is the only reasons a women should have an abortion. period. it has bcome the way of life for those women who spread their legs in this day n age n its stupid. there are so many women who would love to have a child n cant.

I just read an article in a magazine about the morning after pill. LOTS of complications. Tough decision tho. I'd talk to professionals and get plenty of information before deciding anything.

I'm sorry you are only getting comments from people ranting about their personal opinions, rather than answering your question. It's quite annoying.

The question doesn't even state that you are considering an abortion, or know someone that is. It was completly medical in nature.

I am trying to find the answer to your question online, but I can't so far. I would suggest calling a planned parenthood. Regardless of whether you are in this situation, or if you are simply asking out of curiousity, they are there to provide information.

A friend of mine had big complications in a medical facility. She ended up having to have a hystorectomy. It's a risk no matter what.

DO NOT GET AN ABORTION!

you have to live with the consequences of your actions. you can't just kill a child. IT'S MURDER. DO NOT GET AN ABORTION! honestly, it shouldn't even be legal. and hopefully it will become illegal soon. DO NOT DO IT!

Adoption or abstinence are the only real choices. As an adult you need to take responsibly for your actions and not just try to cover them up. You have a little girl or boy growing inside you why would you want to kill it? Please think about it and give him or her a chance.

the safer one is not having one dont kill a baby

abortion is murder baby killer!!!!!!!!!!

Long-term, the risks for both are the same and are quite small. Complications arising from an abortion, either procedure, are very rare. In fact, the risk of complications following childbirth are actually 11 times higher than the risks following an abortion.

There's no reason to assume that you would have any complications following an abortion unless you have a pre-existing medical condition.

The long-term risks for both procedures would be about the same because they target two separate areas. One empties the uterus which may, rarely, cause a complication and the other causes hormonal diruptions which may, rarely, cause a complication. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. Both methods are very safe and I have never heard, seen, or read anything that would empatically answer your question. If I can help with anything else, let me know.
Peace,
Jenn
