Abortion...?

Sorry for this being a rather negative question. How long does the process of abortion usually take, I mean from a consultation to the actual thing. x

You will need to see two doctors for this and most places offer compulsory counselling as well. This is a very important decision that will affect the rest of your life, so you need to be absolutely sure how you feel about everything before you go ahead. The process from seeking help to the actual abortion shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks on the NHS. Probably a bit quicker privately. The length of the actual procedure will depend on the type of abortion you have. I'm assuming that the answerers who say the operation is quick have experience in this.

I know for a fact that if you have a chemical abortion (taking medications that induce a miscarriage) can take up to two days. This is something that can be doe in early pregnancy. You have the first drugs on one day ad then go into hospital the next to finish the process and expell the contents of the uterus. It can be a bit like having a HORRIBLE period. On the upside, you get to spend a long time with the nurses who are generally well trained in dealing with the emotive issues of abortion, and staying awake throughout the process helps you maintain a notion of control, rather than someone else taking it away, if you know what I mean...

it really depends on a lot of things. it depends on how far along you are, where you go, and how busy they are that day. i would say that they entire process will take at least a few hours.

It depends on many factors. You're weight, your age, how long you've been pregnant already.. I'm completely against abortion unless it's to save the mother's living life.. But, in this hypothetical situation, it's your choice, your body, your child. I guess just try not to get pregnant so you won't have to worry about this in the future... The process itself takes 5-10 minutes, but the consultation and exam takes about 3-4 hours. It's everything before the procedure that takes a while.

Also, keep in mind, this was at a Planned Parenthood clinic, where they herd all the women around like cattle, not a private doctor's office.

the whole process should not take more than a couple of weeks start to finish. Having a bit of time like that is often a good thing as it lets you think long enough to make the right choice for you. There are a lot of people who are very opinionated on this subject and you must always remember it is your choice your decision and the rest of your life to live with it so give it time to decide. I had to get mine because of Medical Risks. It took the Doctor at the Clinic i went to, about 15 minutes for the operation. I was under a Local so I don't remember much else. But the Consultation took about 30 to 45 minutes before. Then the Doctor talks to you for about 10 minutes after you are in the recovery room. So I guess the whole process from beginning to end takes about 2 hours. Hope I helped you.
