I had a neurologist tell me my son had 3 different abnormalities in his facial features...?

He said if that if it was just one abnormality, he would not be concearned... but sine it was three together, he was. Everyone thinks my kid looks fine. Not partial people, but everyone.. My kid doesnt hold his head up very long but he is quite aware and talks alot... He is just a little smaller than most kids his age, but he is growing to scale in his head circumfrence, Length, and his weight.... Why did this doctor tell me my kid would never be normal?? I am going to sue for all the pain and suffering that he has caused my family if my son turns out to be alright.... I dont see how he could tell anything without even drawing blood or doing an mri or other legitamate tests..... Im pissed... But if any can shed light on this situation, maybe it will help me....

Without being there at the neurologist with you, seeing or knowing you or your son, or even knowing more info about your son, I am going to answer your question by making an educated guess, and one question. As a special educator, I have learned and past experience has taught me that if a child has certain facial abnormalities, that can be a sign of certain disabilities. For example, if you look up the disability 'Fetal Alcohol Syndrome' or 'Fetal Alcohol Effects', and you can get photos, it will point out to you certain facial characteristics that are found in most children with that disability. (I am NOT saying this is what your child has.) Also, neurologists can order blood tests and such, but in my experience and knowledge, they are trained to be able to pinpoint problems without always having to go that route, b/c they are so specially trained (as opposed to, say, a regular family doctor). That said, I think that the neurologist was WAY WRONG in telling you that your child would never be normal. No person on Earth has that kind of knowledge, and who was he to say that???!!! I can see where you would be angry. My one question to you is, why did you bring your child to the neurologist in the first place? I'm thinking that you must have had some concerns to do so. I suggest that you bring your son to another neurologist for a second opinion, and, I would also have him tested by the school district that you are in. It is absolutely free, no matter where you live. Just go to the main office of your school district, and tell them that you would like to have your child tested b/c your neurologist had some concerns. (If you don't want to tell them why, you don't have to, but they will probably ask.) They may have you go to another office, but that's okay. Ask what paperwork you need to bring with you to get it started (i.e.-usually the child's birth certificate, etc...). Tell the district that you would like to have your child tested in all areas (i.e.-cognition (thinking), fine and gross motor (small and large movement), socialization (ability to relate to his/her environment in a meaningful manner) (I think I'm leaving one area out, but for the life of me, I can't think of it.) And also be aware, a child can be tested from birth, so it is never too soon. Good luck!

My advise is not to panic! Talk to you son's pediatrician and see what is really going on.
Good luck.

The best person to clarify what he meant was the neurologist. I am sure he did not say what he did just to upset you. The other people who have commented are not I take it neurologists. I think it is very sad if you sue because your child turns out not to have problems.
