Are there other ways to detect vascular or neural abnormalities in the head other than a ct scan or Brain MR? Another way is angiography. It is a type of x-ray that uses a contrast media. Usually, a catheter is threaded from the femoral vein in the groin and threaded up to the vessels in the neck. Images are obtained after injection of a contrast (dye). It is used to get more exact information after something abnormal has been detected by an MRI or CT scan of the head such as bleeding within the brain.
