Down Syndrome Testing NT Scan?

Hello all,
I need some help. I went for my NT scan on Friday and they found that that my fold measured 5 and they told me I was high risk and that my baby had a 45% chance of having an abnormality. I went back on Monday morning to have the CVS done and they measured the fold to be 3 and that really made me think. I am waiting for my test to come back tomorrow after 2:00 EST and I just need to talk to someone who might have gone through this. I am praying so hard nothing is wrong, but 5 is a high reading. So high they did not even give me the blood tests. PLEASE PLEASE someone talk to me.

Listen honey, those tests aren't always right, and don't worry too much about it. If you are going to have a baby with a abnormality though I want to tell you that you aren't alone and your baby is not doomed to a horrible life. My lil sis has downsyndrome and I couldn't imagine life without her she does very well and a lot of kids do. There are different levels of any disorder so it's not a end all or anything. I have known people who found out they were having a baby with downs only to not have a baby with downs so just take it from me and don't worry, no matter what your baby has or doesn't the most important thing is your love.

I understand your worry and your fear. I went through it with my youngest son. I could sit here and tell you a million reasons why there is no need to worry. the answer above mine gave you some things to think about. and I certainly not going to hop up on the preacher pulpit. you have every right to be concerned and afraid...all of this is an unknown for you. I felt the same way. but looking back on the past 4 yrs of my son's life I can tell you this....IF your baby has down syndrome it won't be the end of the world....sure your life will be somewhat different than what you expected, but I have to tell you it really isn't that much different than raising any other child...things are just accomplished at a slower more leisurely pace. I wake up each morning to a "hi" and a sign of 'love you'. and it is a wonderful way to start my day!
I saw in your answer that you had a CVS sampling done. that and an amnio are the only way to know 100% if your child will have DS. all the other tests aren't as accurate; personally I think they are a big waste of time, money, and all they do is add stress and fear to new moms...PLEASE try not to worry too much (though I know you are going to anyway) you will have your answer soon. if you need to talk to someone please feel free to email me anytime. take care of yourself!!
