Please tell me what this means? single 3mm subpleural nodule within upper rightlobe, suboptimal opacification? |
suboptimal opacification of the ureters bilaterally cannot exculde a ureteral abnormality. left renal cyst, no renal masses appreciated.there is a spot on left lung follow up in 1 year with ct scan. what does all of this mean in plan english please help me out A single 3mm nodule (subpleural refers to the location, it is beneath the pleural space in the upper right lobe of the lung) - this is a small nodule, about the size of a small bead. Opacification refers to how opaque it is, or how white it appears on the x-ray. The less white (opaque) it is, the less dense it is, and this tells the radiologist certain things. That the clinician wants to look at it again in 1 year suggests that he/she doesn't think it's dangerous but on the other hand doesn't really know what it is either - further testing is needed, with some time to allow the thing to do whatever it's going to do (grow, shrink, change color, etc.) Lots of these 'spots' on the lung are nothing more than fibrous lumps. The cyst (a fluid filled sac) on your kidney again could be something or not. Cysts by themselves don't do much (sometimes they are in a tight spot and cause pain). Dozens of cysts would be a problem. No renal masses means no stones and no cancerous nodules. That's good news. 1 year is a good amount of time to wait before having another test, and it means don't worry! Beats the hell out of me!!!! it means you aren't going to die. really |
