Is there a link between the ears and heart problems?

My sister in law just had a baby girl a few weeks ago and they detected a hole in her heart (and some other malfunction of the organ) As well as the possibility of her being deaf. My mother in law said that they are linking the ear abnormality with her heart. I've never heard of this. Does anyone have any idea if the 2 health problems could be linked in any way?

Consult a clinical geneticist. There are myriads of syndromes and associations that need to be sorted out.

And yes, it could be just a chance association.

There is no link between ear and heart diseases but the link is that when a baby discovered to have a congenital abnormality so sure there are other congenital abnormalities that should search for...

This sounds just like congenital rubella syndrome. The deaness is a classic sign. If there are other symptoms such as a rash at birth, lethargy and irritability I would say its pretty certain. A hole in the heart is one of the complications of it. Take a look at the link for more info.

One side effect of aortic stenosis (A condition which involves a narrowing of the aortic valve) can be a harsh noise linked to the systolic rush of blood out of the diseased valve. This noise can be transmitted through the blood stream and be "Heard" by a patient in some situations. Another side effect of high blood pressure (A disease which may involve the heart) can be a thumping sound in the ears due to the elevated pressures in the blood stream. Murmurs in the ear(s) can be carotid artery stenosis whi may manifest in the same way that an aortic murmur is heard. A "Bruit" can be heard in many cases by the patient, and by a well trained Physician during a physical exam.

Peace, Gizz
