What is the relation between pulse and heartbeat?

My EKG is very irregular showing many skips and premature beats, but when I work out my heart rate is very steady. I maintain a 140 working heart rate and it recovers to 102 within two minutes of cool down. I am 57. I had an echogram that showed no abnormality. If the heart beat is irregular, wouldn't the pulse be too?

Every heart beat should cause a pulse; however, an ECG does not record heat BEATS it records electrical activity which usually leads to a heartbeat. You can have electrical activity without the heart actually contracting. This is especially true when you have premature beats or tachycardia. To answer your question, yes, if the heart beat is irregualr, the pulse would be too.

Your pulse is calculated as an average, usually per minute, although some exercise machines average it over 30 seconds and then multiply by 2. So while the average might be regular (for example, 60 beats per minute), the individual heartbeats may be spaced at varied intervals (not 1 beat every second, but some closer together, and others spaced apart).

Maybe you need to see a cardiologist and wear a Holter Monitor for 24 hrs. You could have a little blockage causing this, but my question is this, Why would you take medical advice from a bunch of I.D.'s (Internet Doctors) instead of a real M.D.?
