Do tattoos cause any abnormality in LFT(liver function tests).? |
I have tattoos and i am about to get my blood work done.I would appreciate if anyone could just let me know, Do tattoos cause any abnormality in the Liver function tests(SGOT and SGPT) especially.? Doctors only ask about tattoos when they are about to test for liver function because of the possibility of having got an infection from the needles if the tattoo was done in an unsafe place. I know it sounds unfair but tattoos act as a sort of "warning sign" for doctors for the possibility of hepatitis B especially. That does not mean that ppl with tattoos all have the infection - far from it, only a very tiny minority will have it; but still this minority is greater than the amount of ppl having hepatitis B in the general population not belonging to any risk groups. I hope not. I have 4 Unless you catch a disease from an infected needle, tattoos won't cause abnormal anything. my doctor ask me if I had any tattoo's when I was having liver problems. It must have some effect. Not unless the tattoos caused hepatic imparement, ie Hep ABC. Otherwise no. Tattoos are a risk factor for hepatitis B & C, and hep B & C will cause liver enzymes to be elevated. The tattoo, if no hep is spread, will not cause your enzymes to be elevated. If you must have a tattoo, make sure you go to a reputable shop. They should open new tattoo needles in front of you, and the ink must be new ink poured into a fresh cup. Ink should never be reused from one client to the next. The only way to kill the HCV virus is to autoclave instruments or use new instruments with each person. Hope this helps. Best wishes. |
