What does it mean when you have epithelial cell abnormality on pap smear? |
i recently had a pap smear done and it came back abnormal. Dr gave me my results and on them they tested for HPV and it came back not detected. But on the pap smear part the results say LOW GRADE SQUAMOUS INTRAEPITHELIAL LESION(LSIL) AND ALSO EPITHELIAL CELL ABNORMALITY. Has anyone had these kind of results before. They also tested for STD's and that came back negative. Does this mean i have cancer and will never be able to concieve? Please any advice will help Is this the reason why my periods are so heavy where I have big clots coming out sometimes. they last about 5 days but first couple of days i have alot of blood clots coming out and not little ones big ones. same thing 3 times! I don't know exactly what it means but I need to find out. My doc said my pap was slightly abnormal and not to worry about it, that she'd check me again next year. This confuses me because I was told that if something is wrong, you need to be tested again right away. It is interesting to hear that I'm not alone. i have abnormal cells. They might give you a colopo to check your cells. Mine came back as dysplasia which can lead to cervical cancer they then gave me a biopsy. You can still have kids and they will just keep checking you like every 3 months. But first they will give you a repeat pap and then go from there... It is not cancer. There is inflammation present and some abnormal cells present. This is not uncommon and should be monitored by your GYN. They usually want to perform another pap in six months to check for changes. I did have changes, which meant I had pre-cancerous cells. I then had "laser" surgery in the doctors office. This condition was called cervical displascia. It's pretty common for PAP tests to sometimes have this type of abnormality. A lot of factors can affect the results. Your doc will have you repeat the test soon and chances are the next one will be normal. Not a big deal, but do get a follow-up test when the doc says to. |
