What should I ask my Dr? |
I'm 28 (29 in 3 months) There is heart disease in my family and I was wondering what test other than EKG could I ask for to test this. I feel abnormalities (shortness of breath, I feel rapid heart rate at times when I should be at rest and so on) I have mentioned to her these symptoms and every time I have an EKG done it always shows up normal and my cholesterol is always normal my blood pressure is always normal...but I STILL get these "futters"...why do these tests show up normal when I feel anything but. I get that black out feeling if I'm bent over for too long and get up too fast more times than I think I should. I just have this gut feeling like my heart has abnormalities that aren't being shown in the tests. My Dr doesn't seem to understand my concern. Any suggestions? I heard on the news about this cornary artery calcium test. ANyone have details? I also heard that you could still have heart disease prolems with a normal EKG and normal cholestoral and BP.... A holter monitor as suggested is a good test for a dr to order, but typically they are worn for 24 hours, sometimes 48 hours. Your dr could also have you take a stress test, this would show any effects with your heart during exercise. Good Luck and if your current dr isn't addressing your issues as seriously as you feel they should be, I encourage to see cardiac specialist. Explain all the symptoms you have experienced and let him know your family history. Ask to wear a halter monitor. Its a portable light weight machine than you can hook on your belt and attach the electrodes ( just like the EKG) to your chest. You wear it every where you go for usually 3 days. Than the doctor downloads it and sees if there was any abnormal activity noted. This can be more informative than the EKG at the office because it is with you all the time for several days. Best of luck/ |
