What self checks can one perform to test for lumps, bumps, abnormalities, rigidity within the body?

hi everyone, on tv we have all seen ways to detect things like breast cancer and testicular cancer by performing self checks by feeling for certain lumps and bumps but how can one feel other parts of their body to check for the same thing? Say for instance, with me i have concerns about a potential something where my sternum is. If it is possible to do so, how can one feel for any abnormalities in this region or for that matter anywhere along the abdominal region (lumps, bumps, rigidity etc?) I read once that doctors know just by externally feeling your pectoral area whether your heart is enlarged or not and so i was wandering whether there were any other checks (as per my above enquiry) that one can perform on themselves to check for potential abnormalities and lumps, bumps etc? Many thanks for your help

Doctors are unlikely to feel heart enlargement through the muscles, bones and lungs so you have received misinformation on that one.
There are no standardised tests similar to the breast and testicular ones, its just a case of knowing how "normal" feels and knowing when there is a deviation from that;

TO CHECK FOR LUMPS IN BREASTS:-
Start by standing in front of a mirror. Look at your breasts with your arms at your side, with your arms raised behind your head, and with your arms on your hips and your chest muscles flexed.
Next, lie down with a pillow under your left shoulder. Put your left hand behind your head and feel your left breast with the pads of the 3 middle fingers on your right hand. Start at the outer edge and work around your breast in circles, getting closer to your nipple with each circle. After you've finished checking your breast, squeeze your nipple gently and look for discharge (fluid coming out of the nipple). Do the same thing to your right breast with a pillow under your right shoulder. Be sure to include the area up to your collarbone and out to your armpit. You have lymph nodes in this area. Cancer can spread to lymph node tissue.

Changes to look for in your breasts
Any new lump (which may or may not be painful or tender)
Unusual thickening of your breasts
Sticky or bloody discharge from your nipples
Any changes in the skin of your nipples or breasts, such as puckering or dimpling
An unusual increase in the size of one breast
One breast unusually lower than the other.

TO CHECK FOR TESTICULAR CANCER:-

You should carry out these easy steps regularly. A thorough examination may be easier after a warm bath or shower as the scrotal skin relaxes. Most lumps found on the testicles are benign but any changes in size, shape or weight should be checked by your GP.

Support the scrotum in the palm of your hand and become familiar with the size and weight of each testicle.Examine each testicle by rolling it between your fingers and thumb. Gently feel for lumps, swellings, or changes in firmness.
Each testicle has an epididymis at the top which carries sperm to the penis. Don鈥檛 panic if you feel this - it鈥檚 normal.

Regular self examination will help you become more aware of the normal feel and size of your testicles so that any abnormalities can be spotted early on.

If you notice anything unusual, go and see your GP as soon as you can.
