Abnormalities on a mammogram?

my mom got a call from the dr that she has to come and see them about some abnormalities on her mammogram. She has never had one before nor does she have a major family history of cancer in her family. her aunt on her mothers side died of it many years ago. But other than that no one else has any kind of cancer that she knows of.
Is there any advice that anyone can give me on how to be supportive and if there is something wrong what I can do to help her? I am so scared for her and I really don't want to think negative but sometimes its hard not too. Thanks for any adivce anyone can give.

Be supportive and be yourself. If you are "huggers", then hug a little more...My family gave love taps on the arm...so I tapped my mom on the arm just to let her know she had support.

She is really scared too, but she knows that she must face this head on with courage. Don't bug her too much about what the dr. said...wait for her to tell you. Let her know that. After she shares, THEN you can tell her you were (or are) scared for her and the family. In the worst case scenario, you can support each other. It is important to be yourself...she will still want to see that you are having a "normal" life.

After saying that, let me offer some facts that I know, being a mammography tech for almost 30 years...Most mammograms end up being "negative" or not needing surgery. Most of the "positive" mammograms (ones that recommend removal of breast tissue to check for cancer) end up with tissue pathology of "benign" (not cancer).

By the way, over 70% of women with breast cancer had NO family history...so the lack of family history is not a reason to not worry.

it could be anything =some women get a build up of calcium as well =if your Mom does have cancer ,just be there for her =Don't ignore the fact ,but do give her loving support=good luck to all the family
