Heart and abnormalities?

My boyfriend was informed when he visited the doctor that his heart beats faster than normal, then after some testing with machines, they discovered that he has an extra "wire" connected to his heart. What does that mean? Does it has to do with life expectancy?

I am guessing that the doctor didn't literally mean a "wire". I think he was referring to the heart's electrical wiring that conducts impulses across the heart muscle and causes it to contract.Sometimes people are born with extra pathways or extra circuits, and these can cause the heart to beat more rapidly from time to time. Many of these are more annoying than dangerous, but they can be very distracting and disconcerting to those people who experience it.
Sometimes it can be cotrolled with medication. Sometimes the doctor will recommend a procedure that can "burn" out the extra pathway so the heart will follow its normal conduction pattern.
Like the post above, I would say to get more information from your doctor.
If treated, it should not affect his life expectancy at all.
Good luck. :>)

wow, assuming he doesnt have a pace maker or other equipment attached to his heart, I am at a loss as to what wires they are talking about. I will tell you that in my human anatomy class in college the chordae tendinae that move the heart valves sure do look like wires, is it possible that he has too many maybe??? Your boyfriend should press his Doc to answer these questions, that what you pay him for :)
