Severe upper right abdominal pain?

Hubby has had right upper abdominal pain for the past 3 days. He went to the doc today and she is sending him for an ultrasound for his gall bladder. Considering the symptoms of gall bladder problems, he has NONE besides pain behind his rib cage where his gall bladder should be. No problems with 'fatty foods' , jaundice, vomiting or nausea, just pain. He goes for the ultrasound and blood tests on Monday. She wants the whole abdomin done, considering it MAY be the pancreas or liver to. Yet she had not requested an LFT test be done. He was prescribed 500 mg Vicodin for the pain. He never takes pills and the Vicodin isn't touching the pain. It hurts to cough, stretch, bend down and get in and out of the car. Even while in the office today as she was explaining the symptoms, nothing was the same !! So frustrated. He is not anorexic, not jaundiced, no fever, no chills, not a heart attack, no vomiting, no abnormal gassy-ness, no pain moving towards his back. Nothing but pain ... ???

I had the same symptoms about 2 years ago. (which was none, except the pain in the upper right chest area, just about under the breast--I am a woman) I had the gall bladder ultrasound, and the gall bladder was removed the next day. Truthfully, I hope his is the same. It was an easy surgery, outpatient, 4:30 p.m., home by 9:30. Vicodin, as needed, and a visit to the Dr. a week later. Good Luck to him.
