Information regarding hernia-if you had one or have one.? |
Recently, my OBGYN discovered a mass the size of a softball in my abdominal area. Went for a ct-scan and he confirmed it along with a slightly enlarged liver. He has refered me to a bariactric doctor which the appt is next week. I have been in discomfort and pain for sometime. I was taking ibprofren for the pain which he said may be why the liver is slightly enlarged. My question: if surgery is needed to repair the hernia, how long is the normal time being out of work? Also, could I wait until mid-January before the procedure or is this something that needs a.s.a.p attention? Again, I haven't seen the second doctor yet. I have questions now but can't get answers until I see him next week. Am I in any danger like an erupted appendix scenerio? The pain is from the mid section and runs up to my right side near my waste. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance I have had a hernia in the same area that you are discussing..my mom also had 2 within the last 3 years. You will miss a good amount of work depending on what you do for a living. Try not to strain it too much, no lifting heavy things. After surgery you have to do the same thing..take it easy is what they tell you..no lifting, stretching of that area and no physical activity for weeks. Also, many hernias can return if not properly healed afterwards..thats how my moms second one came back..she didnt take it easy and enjoy her time off..good luck to you and sorry if i could help more. I have two hernia's in the groin area. I don't think they are as bad as you state. The problem with the size you have is the fact that your intestines could get entagled and cause some serious problems, like an emergency operation. Please do not lift If you don't lift anything heavy, you could postpone your surgery until after the Holidays, Discuss with your doctor and ask if it is okay to wait. I have had a hernia repair myself around that area, and I finally had surgery after five years of increasing pain. Turned out I had developed adhesions from the stitches that were used 7 years prior when they took my appendix. I was allergic to the stitches, and the incision finally pulled apart causing the hernia. They may be able to do laparoscopic procedure on you and that will be easier on you. Please see the web pages for more details and images on Hernia. If you have got pain, then surgery is indicated. Otherwise it may cause strangulation of the intestine and gangrene to the affected part. Your appendix isn't in danger of "erupting" or rupturing unless it's currently inflamed and left untreated. Considering the size of the abdominal hernia, you could be off work for perhaps 4 weeks or more depending on your individual healing ability and how closely you follow postop instructions as well as the repair technique used. You really should consult your surgeon about how much time she/he advises when you meet. It's probably not advisable to put off the herniorraphy until mid-January. The herniation could enlarge further. Hernia surgery is have become very common now. My cousin got her Hernia and colostomy surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for Minimal Invasive and Laparoscopy surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. |
