Sore Ribs.. Broken, Bruised, or Seperated?

I was playing Basketball with some friends 1 week ago and took a shoulder in the ribs. It knocked the wind out of me but I was able to keep playing. The pain is bearable but constant a week later. I can't feel any structural damage and Ice helps to dull the pain. Is there any way of checking if the ribs are broken. There is no bruising in the area. My first thought was a bone bruise, but then I thought perhaps I seperated the ribs (if that's possible?)

The biggest problem I have is getting up, it feels like i have a torn abdominal muscle where the rib hurts. Sleeping is uncomfortable if I'm not in the right position. Any ideas or anyone have the same situation?

I can't see a point in going to the hospital as I can't see the doctors doing anything about it except billing me a ton of money.

I have had the same problems after I was in a truck crash rolled several times. when I did finally go to the doctor he said my ribs had not healed right because they needed to be taped to keep them from moving. I don't think they ever did heal back right. I wish I would of had them taped as soon as possible. You should think about this. Good luck

It might be what they call a green stick fracture. You just might want to go to a doctor and have an x-ray taken to be sure. Try wrapping them with ace bandages firmly but not tightly.
