I have a burning in my mid abdomen. I can't sleep at night and have had really bad gas.?

I went to the emergency room. They did blood work and a urine sample and said those were fine. They took x-rays and said I had lots of gas. I'm going for an abdominal ultrasound on Monday. What can this be? What can an ultrasound reveal? If I have an ulcer, can they see that through the ultrasound or not? Can I take anything now as the pain is intense and radiating to my back.
Thank you for any help.

Dear Tiger,

My pain of this type got diagnossed as acid reflux, which has created a heitus hernia at the opening of my stomache where the esophagus meets my stomache. If you don't know what an heitus hernia is, it is an open wound like an open cold sore that is quite large. My doctor has prescriped me with Parriatt 20mg once a day, but I still go through rough times when I have either had to many spicy dishes to eat or I have had more than 2 cups of black coffee a day. Altrasounds are great at diagnossing kidney stones, bowl problems, any bladder problems, sometimes really good at picking up Ulcers as well, but you need to get your doctor to send you to a Gastric specialist who can actually pin-point what the problem is. Quick suggestion for gas: Beano Tablets, (I think that is the name, it comes in a small white bottle and you can pick it up at your local pharmacy) before every meal and follow the dosage directions. As far as pain is concered, try drinking Melox or Peptobismal to coat your stomache before every meal, so that if it is an Ulcer, you are protecting it from being affected by things going into your stomache. Watch what you eat, control your intake of greacy, oily, spicy foods, your caffeen intake (pop, coffee, tea's). A home remedy that might help is a piece of Chocolate 10 min before every meal. My dad use to say that if there is an Ulcer, the chocolate basicly just goes into your system and sticks on top of the Ulcer, forming a sort of protective layer. Good Luck and let me know how you are doing. I feel your pain. Simbha

Sounds like possible acid reflux, I have it and it's worse at night.Good luck.

good chance it's your gall bladder. sounds like what i had...very painful! I'm surprised they did not do ultra sound at the emergency room. ultra sound will tell if it is. (don't worry, that's an easy test if you've never had one). If it is your gall bladder, you may be able to be treated medically.

Worst case is galll bladder removal (which I had), but don't worry, they do it orthoscopically now, as out patient surgery. I went in at 9 am, out at 1 pm!!! All I had was a bandaid on my belly and now have a tiny scar, less than 1". You only have to rest for a day or two afterward.

Dont worry, I'm sure you will be ok!!

could be gall stones in this case a laparoscopic cholecystectomy would be needed id a wait for the results hope you get them soon try to avoid heavy foods or red meat which will worsen until then

nausia, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, HEY PEPTO BISMOL.
