Getting surgery...need help asap?

I am getting an abdominal hysterectomy tommorrow. They are leaving the ovaries in so I wont have to take hormone replacement. I already have one son who I had when I was 20 and now I am 25. I know that I can adopt so that is not a problem. I am having the hysterectomy because of constant bleeding from 2 D&C's. I am just really worried that something will go wrong with this surgery like it did with the D&C's. I want to know if there is anyone who has had a hysterectomy where something went wrong. Or I want to know if someone had the surgery and if there are any side effects like emotional or physical. Also was there alot of pain involved with the surgery. I have had a c-section before and i know that it was painful. If any one has any stories please share cause right now I am really nervous and scared of the worst happening and I am only 25.

I had a partial hysterectomy in 2003. Mine was laproscopic.

I had severe cramping and bleeding before I had mine... additionally there is familial history of uterine cancer so I just decided to tear down the baby factory.

Emotional... when I see other people's babies... I sometimes want one of my own... to feel the wee one moving around again. something I kinda miss.

But then I'm brought back to reality when I remember the early morning feedings, the 5 minutes of sleep between feedings, all the dirty diapers and that's when I am thankful mine are all potty-trained, self feeding, and self-cleaning and self-clothing... although...their fashion sense needs some work.

Was it painful? YES... the day of surgery only. The next day I was fine... hadn't felt better in years... and BONUS... no more MENSES!!!

I had trouble with my breathing. They ended up inti-bating me.

hi u r very young for a abdominal hysterectomy, but if it needs to be done then it needs to be done.
pain will be there because u r removing something from u r body, but it will fade after some time don't worry, normally there should not be any problem and u r young so u should recuperate well.
there are no mental changes since u r ovaries are going to be Left behind.
just try and be calm and take it as it comes.
don't pick up heavy stuff for a month, drink lots of water as u r more to prone to get urinary infections after a hysterectomy.
take care. u will be great.

Everything will be fine! I had the surgery a couple of years ago along with a couple of other procedures. I was fine, no problems. Stayed overnight and went home the next day. I had to have a bag attached for urine. That was the worst part - trying to sleep with it and having to change it to go out.
There was a lot of pain immediately after but if was bearable. The ending result is WONDERFUL and I am pleased now and love not having a monthly cycle.
It was easy for me because I knew I did not want another child. Good luck to you and stop making yourself worry.

I am glad that you are getting the surgery to stop the bleeding. I too had a hysterectomy at age 25, but after having three children. The pain is no worse than that you experienced from your c-section. I am now 51, and have not experienced any side effects , emotional or physical. I have a great sex life, and haven't had any regrets regarding my decisionl, which was for precancerous cells. I still have my ovaries, so also do not take hormone replacement. I also haven't experienced menopause yet either. You will be fine, and will feel much better not having all that bleeding. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.

well my sister had her son about 5 weeks about my a c section it didnt hurt while it was being done but after awhile she was getting really sore by her insition (I'm helping her with the baby) and she went to go check and when she came back she found out it was infected but it was considered normal becuz half of the people who got c sections there insition getes infected but yea i think your too young to get a hysterectomy and also i think it will be fine your just worrying to much
