Has anyone experienced bladder discomfort following hysterectomy?

I am 9 days post op from a total abdominal hysterectomy and also work involving a lot of scar tissue removal following past appendics and 2 c-section ops. I am recovering really well already and not in pain aside of gas and ab and back muscle discomfort.Only worry I have is today my bladder feels like a yo-yo, not painful like an infection just feels strange and feels kind of like i want to pass more urine frequently although I dont :) just wondered if anyone else had this feeling?

I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 24 and I had the same problem. Just felt like there was pressure and I wasn't getting all the urine out. I really was passing enough urine, it just seemed like I always needed to get one more drop out! I told my ONGYN about it when I went for my post op. The pressure had let up some by then, but still had it sometimes. He said my bladder had dropped a little bit from the surgery. In time it got better, if it hadn't, he was going to tack my bladder up. It is from the strain trying to go when your insides have been taken out or messed with. After about 4 or 5 weeks, this yo yo feeling you described is gone. Thank God, huh?!! Good Luck on your recovery.

You should call your doctor and have him do a residual urine on you...sounds like you may not be emptying your bladder. Did you have a catheter in place post-op?...probably. They'll have you urinate, then catheterize you to see how much you have left in your bladder.
There is medication you can take..sometimes it takes a while for you bladder to learn how to work right again.

Definitely mention it to your doctor.

One of the adverse -- and non-reversible -- side effects of a hysterectomy is that the ligaments that held your uterus in place also held all of your other pelvic organs in place. Now that they've been severed and a portion of your organ structure has been removed, the other organs are free to slip into that empty void...nature abhors a vacuum.

In my grandmother's case, the doctors had to go back in and reattach her bladder to her stomach wall. I'm not saying this is what you've got going on, but it is a possibility, and should NOT be overlooked or pooh-poohed by your doctor.

I hope you continue to recover and this is just a passing inconvenience.

Your uterus and bladder are held up by the round ligament. when the doctors remove your uterus the bladder can drop down into your pelvis. this can cause discomfort and possibly leaking from your bladder later on. that is when you need to have surgery again to repair your bladder as the one woman stated above. if you continue to have discomfort, call your doctor. they are there to answer your questions and concerns. i hope everything will be okay, and be sure to rest, that way you wont risk further damage. good luck
