I am having all 32 of my teeth extracted, I need to know what to expect? |
I am 40 years old, I have 32 rotten teeth, some are just roots. I have been feeling sick for years and have abcesses about 3 times a year. I am scheduled to have them all removed under general IV anesthesia, I will not have immediate dentures. I am scared to death since I am very sick anyway that this may kill me, I don't know why I am sick the doctors around here make no effort to ever really diagnose me, I am weak and dizzy most of the time with alot of abdominal cramps and diarreah most days, I dont eat well due to lack of appetite for the only foods available to me. also have a broken foot that is infected, I have taken antibiotics for about a month and have been off them for about 10 days now. I am sorry for your health problem, I can tell you a little bit of this because my husband had all his teeth out in one day. I am not an expert so I dare not answer some of your most important questions. I am sorry that I can't. I hope you have a second opinion about this. It may be the right thing to do. If so, you should expect discomfort - but not to the point that you'd rather die. If so, ask for strong pain medicine - this would be one of those rare moments in life in which you deserve it. my father had his teeth extracted about 3 months ago. he lost a ton of weight because he was only able to eat soups and jellos and stuff like that. he has his dentures now and hes able to eat a litte more normaly though he can't bite into some sandwiches and things of that sort. he was in pain for about 2 and a half weeks they will give you pain relivers though. but once its all said and done and youhave your dentures you will feel a lot better b/c you wont have to worry about the pain in your gums and the abcesses will be gone. you r stomich problems could be caused for the root infections. your whole face will not swell but your gums may feel swollen. but really it's probably the best thing for you to do you do not want to keep dealing with the infections in your mouth. Your dentist must feel that this rather drastic procedure will improve your quality of life,or it would'nt be suggested at your age. You will be asleep during the actual surgery, which should'nt take more than 1-2 hrs. Expect some swelling, and I would think you will be treated with antibiotics as well as anti-inflammatory and pain meds. Given the symptoms you describe, you have a systemic infection and removal of your teeth will remove the source. As a result your whole body will be in better shape once this is behind you. Dont hesitate to ask your dentist any and all questions you have...this is a big step you're taking! Since you are not getting immediate dentures, expect at least 6 weeks of healing time to pass before the process of making your conventional dentures can begin. the dentist will not have your 32 teeth extracted all at one go, it's impossible. If it's true, i suggest you see another dentist for second opinion. If not the pain will be more terrible than what you are experiencing now and there may be further complications to your situation. first yopu have to know that your teeth made your gums infected and you know that infection can go with the blood circulation tpo the other parts of the body so it made you sick diarrhea and like taht and further more you take antibiotics for l,ong period that really is the cause of your weakness, because yoy take antibiotics and you cant take enough energized food because of your teeth,so you have to have hope and go under surgery because if you dont,it will get worst so much better if you suffer only for maximum one month after surgery rather for whole life with out surgery and ofcourse you have top take antibiotics and loose weight but it really worths to do that!dont afraid it wioll be go the best! and after your surgery if you can use vitamins and like tahtt your healing periood will promot but more or less 3 weeks ,and the surgery is not hard be sure it is just really simple extraction of your remaining roots only even not whole tooth....for sure you will have alittle problems for ur p[ost operatibve complication but be sureeeeeeee after that you will be ok because it is the way and the only way you have to first clean your mouth from infection and teeth and then your genereal health will be good hello. i think you are having a systemic infection, have u been check for HIV, diabetes,an immunological system low? maybe the antibiotics are causing you the abdominal pain. you should ask for an antibiogram to see which antibiotics may work on you. ask your doctor to chek your immune system. for the extractions maybe its the better choice, although i haven't seen how teeth condition is. but if you get a second opinion on medical and dental treatment it could be better. id the dentist determine you should have the extractions then go for it. they will premed you with antibiotic, pain relief and noninflammatory pills. you should go for injections so they wont bother your stomach. speck some swelling, but if they are only roots you will heel fast. MeeMee is wrong - I had all of mine pulled in one sitting and it wasn't under a general - it was under a local. It's not uncommon at all. |
