Medical question.? |
I had abdominal surgery about two years ago, but for the past few months I have had pains in my stomach and swelling . The doctor gave me tablets for IBS, which have not helped at all. He is sending me for a scan, and said it could be scar adhesions. Does anyone know anything about this, and can this be treated. Abdominal adhesions are a common complication of surgery, occurring in up to 93% of people who undergo abdominal or pelvic surgery. Abdominal adhesions also occur in 10.4% of people who have never had surgery. Definitely go for the scan. But, also start drinking Aloe Vera juice. It is great for your stomach and will help speed up the healing process. there is plenty of info about these on the Net, type it into Google. ah, poor you, that sounds really bad. to be honest, yes take the above advise, that sounds good, but if you want some answers from professionals but you think your doctor is shrugging you off call NHS direct on 0845 46 47 After laparotomy (abdominal surgery) the raw surfaces unite to form adhesions. This may give rise to pain and intestinal obstruction. You must get a scan to rule this out. Adhesions are abnormal bands of tissue that grow in the human body..... They may be thought of as internal scar tissue. Adhesions are glue like strands that cause the bowel and other organs to stick to each other. They occur after surgery. If you are opened up again they are likely to get worse. If they are so bad that you are in agony then the surgeon may wrap your bowel up in surgical 'cling film'. There really is no cure though for adhesions. Have you been tested for Coeliac Disease? It is caused by gluten! Sometimes IBS symptoms can be confused with Coeliac Disease - It may be worth getting checked out the test only takes 5 minutes. |
