Lower left abdominal pain that radiates to groin and leg for 10 days. All tests are neg. What could this be? |
I went to the ER 5 days ago with acute abdominal pain. I have delt with the pain for 5 days before that. I had a left inguinal hernia repair 15 years ago. The repair site upon a DR exam says no hernia problem. I had a CT scan and blood work that was all negative. The pain is a few inches above the scar from the repair. The pain also radiates into the left side of groin and left leg. The pain also radiates from my left side to my back. It is as painful as a kidney stone at times but all that was ruled out. No bowel movement problems or changes. Starting to urinate is slow sometimes but not painful. I feel less discomfort lying down. Standing and sitting is uncomfortable and painful at times. I was referred to a surgeon and he says nothing needs surgical intervention. I was prescribed anti-inflammatories and the pain has eased some, but still hurts. I have not lifted anything heavy or done anything to cause an injury of any sort. This is odd? Did anyone have a similar ocurrance? Have they checked the sciatic nerve? or possibly narrow arteries (partial blockage) ? I had a leg angiogram that showed complete blockage (large blood clot) in the right common iliac. I have had a similar problem but it comes and goes. Seems to get worse after sitting a long time. Report It I salute your intelligence b/c Getting Medical advice on the internet is such a good idea....*shaking head* have you been to the bathroom regularly? if you haven't that could be the reason. It happened to me only it was very bad cramps that followed and it went to my belly button. I did, the CT scan was normal. They told me that I may have passed a small kidney stone. I had pain for about 2 weeks, and then nothing since. could be sciatica, lower back, radiates around from the hip, go to a good accupressure person, I have had that for years, its horribly painful, I was a waitess for 43 years..... You may want to go see a kidney specialist. I have no idea what it is, but you really need to continue to try to find out more answers since it's hurting you this much. Also, maybe a colonoscopy? Just a few thoughts. You may have Diverticulosis. maybe you are dehydrated. Drink tons of distilled water. It cleanses your system and helps. I tried dr young's plan and I lost 15 pounds and feel better. check it out: it could be sciatica. a painful inflammation of the sciatic nerve. this would account for the leg and back pain but not the abdo pain. Damn, I feel for you. Did they also check your heart in any of these tests? Don't stop trying to get the help you need even though it sounds as if the Docs have. My husband had some swelling on the left inner thigh toward the groin and he went to the ER and they said that it was just a pulled muscle, but it didn't go away. I ended going to the ER for a miscarriage and had one of the nurses look at it and he decided to do an ultra sound. Well, the nurse told me that there could be a hole in the lower abdomen where the stomach fluid was seeping into the vein or artery and causing the swelling and pain. We never had it checked after that, he just took tylenol and stuff and it was about 2-3 months before it finally went away. They also said that if this was the case then it does take surgery to repair the hole because the fluid could cause serious damage. I had a problem after abdominal surgery and sometimes muscle strain triggers a problem like this. It radiates from my pelvis up and around my back under my ribs. Doctor said just strain, don't you love it Another doctor said may be scar tissue that flares up. I use anti-inflammatories and take it absolutely easy. NO lifting or straining of any kind, sit in a straight back but comfortable chair and get an ice pack at the drug store, actually two, and when sitting, ice for at least 15-20 minutes every hour to reduce inflammation. It helps. If that doesn't work in a week, go to another doctor because even though scar tissue isn't dangerous generally, it can wrap around organs and create problems. If it's inflammed it may be putting pressure on your bladder or, possibly with just the pain, you are slower to urinate because you are fearful. Only and abdominal MRI or ultrasound can be sure. For example, when trying to heal, don't even lift grocery bags. I felt like everything was literally falling out of me for the first 3-4 days, then just really tight and sensitive, couldn't wear anything with a snug waist. could be a recurrent hernia. Small ones can be missed on physical exam and on ct scan. |
