Why is BUN, Creatinine, and electrolyte levels ordered with a patient on a ventilator in ARDS?

(ARDS) Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Oh yea, on that first answer the acidosis thing, that is wrong, you measure that with arterial blood gases......

with ards most of the patients are septic. they also have multiorgan failure while in ards. they are making sure that the kidneys are not failing also, because if they do they will have to start dialyis....
the electorlyte levels are very important to see how well a patient is hydrated, if they are in fluid overload, etc.. if they are infact giving the patient lasix or a dieretic type medicine they have to watch the potassium levels (which is an electorlyte)
when electrolytes are off, well lets just say the heart will mess up too... in laymens terms.

BUN and Creatinine are used to measure Kidney function. Electrolytes can measure many things. Acidosis, etc,

Sounds like your Doctor needed his morning coffee with that one!
