What's the importance of inspiratory pause for ARDS patients?

this allows the oxygen to more fully saturate the alveoli because the oxygen stays inside your lungs longer, leading to better perfusion and better SaO2 (oxygen saturation)

in other words, it helps the oxygen to get to your body and tissues more efficiently
